Review: Falling

Falling by Emma Kavanagh

First of all I would like to say thank you to Random House, Emma Kavanagh and Netgalley for the review copy.
I'd had this to read for a while, and finally got around to starting it after reading so many of the mixed reviews, i started reading it with an open mind. One or two of my blogger friends had said it was good, and they are not usually wrong so I had to try it for myself.
This book changes from person to person each chapter. And to start off with I struggled getting my head around what was going on, and who was who.
I felt as though I was just getting to grips with what was happening, and getting to know a character, when it changed to the next person.
This was a very good debut. And an enjoyable read once I got into it. I was tempted to stop reading at one stage, but glad i carried on with it.
We start the book off with a plane crash, and a murder. I am not going to give anything away, as i think it really is worth giving this book a go. Some of the characters are likable and some are not. But I find having a mix of both, is what helps with a story, giving it feeling as you read.
I now have Emma's next book on my to read list, and will look forward to starting it shortly.

Review: Scarred For Life

The ninth novel in the bestselling Jessica Daniel series or Book 2 in series 2.
I can't believe we are at book 9. I have read all the Jessica Daniel books and feel like I have kind of gotten to know Jessica over the time. But I also think there could be a lot more to learn about her as this series goes on.
What I have enjoyed about this series is that 9 books on and I haven't gotten fed up with it. (YET.. No pressure Kerry)
When a student's body is found in a wheelie bin, it is left to Jessica and her team to figure out what the hell has gone on. And it takes some time to start fitting pieces together, before they think they may know what has gone on, and how or why he has ended up in a wheelie bin.
They also have to contend with Pick Pockets, Thief’s and well everything else that can be thrown at the police in an average week. But Jessica can cope, can't she????
For Jessica Daniel This is just another bad week. But Jessica believes she can at least figure out who the pickpocket is, and ropes in Adam to help her, he’s not overly happy as he should be at home chilling out in front of the TV.
We see the softer side to Jessica in this book, when she decides to help a homeless person, is there a reason behind it, or is she still feeling like she could have done more for an old friend.
I'm struggling to not give away to much on this book.
But I will say this is well worth reading, and if you have enjoyed previous Jessica Daniel books, then you will certainly enjoy this one.

Review: Unfinished Business

Unfinished Business by Heather Atkinson

I have been a fan of Heather Atkinson books after reading the Breaking away series and the Dividing line series and was really looking forward to reading this latest release, after being contacted by Heather and being offered a review copy, I was really made up to be given the chance to read it before its release.

Unfinished business is the first book in a new series. And I was praying it was just going to be as good as the other series i have read by Heather.

From early on in this book getting to know the characters, It was Brodie and Cass and the connection between them both that I liked the most. These two character really made this story for me.

The other main characters are Mark and his wife Sarah. I kind of started off liking her, but then she seemed to get on my nerves a little, appearing like she was becoming dependent on someone she didn't even know.

Sarah has her life thrown into turmoil when she finds things out about her husband that no one would ever want to find out about their other half. Or about anyone you know come to think of it.
She is told this big secret by Brodie, the Private investigator of the firm Unfinished Business. That has apparently been hired by an unknown person to make sure Sarah finds out about her husbands past, a past that he seems to have hidden so well until now. Sarah seems to just takes on board everything that Brodie has to say, without trying to delve and find out the facts herself, this is where you feel sorry for Sarah, after all its her life that has just changed. The thing is you can't help feeling is that Sarah is holding back and maybe hiding secrets of her own. And should be doing a lot more herself to find out the truth.

I found Mark to be a difficult one to figure out. I really couldn't decide if he was innocent or guilty. Or why he kept his secrets away from his wife to start out with.

The rest of Marks family also seem to be hiding secrets. Secrets from the past, that as much as no one wants them to come out, you just know the more this story goes on, that sooner or later everything is going to come spilling out. Which is what makes you needing to carry on reading this book. I suspected everyone through this book, of holding back on what they actually knew. We have Marks mother, his twin brother and his Sister. All character I liked or hated at different parts of the book.

Brodie and his assistant Cass seem hell bent of getting to the truth, and maybe using not so legal methods of finding things out is the only way to go. These two really seem to have a great connection between them all the way through the book.

I have tried my best to do this review without giving away anything about the story line or the outcome, I found this really hard to do.
But one thing you need to know about this book. is that it is well worth reading. And I am looking forward to more from this series as the series develops and grows, I just believe it is going to turn out to be a really great series.

Review: Taunting the Dead

Taunting the Dead by Mel Sherratt

I have just read this book for the 2nd time. I first read it in 2013 and as the 2nd Book is Due out in February, I thought I would have a re read to refresh myself.

It was just as good this time as it was the first time.

It’s funny though as even though I have read it before, there were parts I just couldn’t remember. And little bits where I thought OH I remember this now. Then I still got it wrong.
There is a very thin line between love and hate.

It really is a good book, and well worth reading.

The Character where very well put together, some you like some you hate.

Detective Sergeant Allie Shenton, is the protagonist in the book, and I really did like her, everything about her seemed normal, she has family issues, work issues, yet just get’s on with what needs doing.

And when she is given the task of solving a murder, she really get’s stuck in. Allie suspects she known’s who is involved with the murder, but is she right, or is she just trying to hard to want it to be that person.

A really good, gripping read.

And the good thing is, I can now go right onto book 2, as I have an early release copy just waiting for me to start it.

I don't want to go into too much detail about the book as I feel I would have to give too much away. But we have Crime, Murder, Villians, Affairs, Policeand a whole lot more mixed in. Which makes is bloody good reading.

Review: An Evil Mind

An Evil Mind by Chris Carter

Evil Mind is the first Chris Carter book I have read. It is safe to say it will not be the last.

I was introduced to the book by fellow book blogger Shaun O aka @BookaddictShaun. So I would like to say a huge thank you to Shaun for thinking of me, and sending me a copy to read.

~When I received the book, I had a quick nose at the cover and back, and thought I'd get stuck in when I'd finished my current read. Unfortunatly Christmas and real life got in the way, so i had to put the book on hold part way it. So yesterday I picked up the book and thought I might get a few chapters read. And that is just what I did, read a few chapters, then a few more, and before you know i'm at the end.

Wow.

Right from page one, this book got me. Each of the chapters are quite short, some just a couple of pages, but each chapter ends in a way that you just can't help but start the next one. So my quick few pages soon turned into the first 25 chapters.

I believe there have been 5 books before this that feature Hunter. A character I liked right from the start of the book.

Just as he's about to set off on vacation, Detective Robert Hunter is asked by his boss to interview a man who is believed to be behind some very evil murders, Hunter is an expert of criminal psychology.

The Man in custody has stated he will only talk to Hunter and no one else. What follows is bits of the crime being put together to figure out just exactly what has gone on, with who, when and why. I am worried about saying to much on the story line as I don't want to give any spoilers, and ruin it for anyone who has not yet read it. What I will say is if you have not read it, and enjoy this sort of book, then it really has to be added to your I really must read this book list.

An absolutely amazing book, told in an amazing way. To the point that once started, it is difficult to put down, and nearing the end very difficult to continue reading as you know the book is about to end. The tension in this book just builds and builds, and with each page you turn you just get more and more involved. I love it when I feel a book has really pulled me into it's pages, and this one really felt like that. I really am stuck for words to describe this book.. It is a must read

Review: The Divorce Diet

The Divorce Diet by Ellen Hawley

This was one of those books, when I saw it. It just sounded good. Fun, different.
As I read an awful lot of crime, mystery thrillers. Occasionally I like something a little different and that is what I though when I saw this.
Abigail, is a wife and a new Mummy. She seems determined that she wants to lose weight. As Its new year I was thinking maybe this is something that thousands of people are going through, trying to follow a new diet. I must be honest, i'm not sure I could diet If my life depended on it. But would like to lose a pound or two after Christmas, so thought it might be fun doing a little of Abigails diet.
Unfortunatly Abigail is a delt a blow she wasnt expecting when Husband Thad decides marriage and babies are not really for him.
Abigail is shocked and saddened, after having had no idea anything was wrong, she is thrown in to some life changing decisions. Abaigail leaves the marital home, with her little one, and she ends up moving back in with her parents. looking for work, child care and all the things she thought she would not need to be doing. She is also still trying to follow her Diet.
Abigails Diet is probably not the best thing to be trying whilst going through her break up. but she's not exactly sticking to it, and with her imaginary diet friend talking to her, it does make some funny parts in the story. There are more than a few laugh out loud moments.
It was rather repetative in parts, but very easy to follow, i got a little bored reading it, and finished off listening to it via text to speach on my kindle, which did help pass a little time while doing housework, and ironing. I can only listen via the text to speach when the story is very easy to follow.
It wasn't fantastic but it wasn't bad, and was a nice change from my normal reads of crime thrillers.

Review: Shopaholic on Honeymoon

Shopaholic on Honeymoon by Sophie Kinsella

How lovely it was when I saw Sophie Kinsella had released a Shopaholic short story. Having still not read the latest shopaholic book, I thought this would be a little treat to read until I get to read the new one.
Its good to be back with Becky even if it is just for a very short time. We have the usual Becky antics. Shopping, Shopping and generally just being Becky.
Becky and husband Luke are on Honeymoon. I'll not say anymore as it is only a short story I dont think you need too much detail, but I will say if you like Becky then this is a great little read.
Oh and it is free on Amazon, so if you have not tried the shopaholic series, maybe give this a go see how you get on with it.

Review: As The Crow Flies

As The Crow Flies by Damien Boyd

A very easy to read but interesting story. At only 180 pages it was very easy to get stuck into and finish.
This is the fist book featuring Detective Inspector Nick Dixon.As its only a short book it seems to get right to the point early on.,
Detective Inspector Nick Dixon has recently left a career in the Met to move to the Avon & Somerset Police force, He's a character I kind of liked right away.
He receives a call telling him his friend and Former Climbing partner had died.
Dixons friend Jake Fayter has died whilst practicing a new route on High rock. in cheddar Gorge. But Dixon knows that Jake would not have made a basic error in tying a knot, and he is then drawn into the investigation as to the cause of death.


A really well written book, I not read many around rock climbing, and wasn't sure how I was going to find this one, but i really did enjoy it.
I recieved this book for review via Netgalley. And luckily I took the chance and downloaded the next two at the same time. I'm glad I did and look forward to reading them both.

Review: Die Again

Die Again by Tess Gerritsen

Detective Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles are back. I just can not believe this is book 11. And I have to admit I have loved everyone of them. This has been a fantastic series of books. Tess Gerritsen really does know how to write a bloody good story.
WE leave Boston this time and head out to Africa.
The book starts off with a group on safari in Africa, when one of the group is killed, and the rest of the group should really get the hell out of there, but they can't. They have no means of communication and there truck wont start.
Mean while back in Boston Rizzoli and Isles are trying to solve the murder of taxidermist Leon Gott.He had been sent a rare snow leopard that he was supposed to be preserving. Is there a link to a disappearance a few years ago.
We go between Boston and Afric in this book, and its fantasticly written on how it all comes together.
I really got the feel reading this book on how dangerous being on Safari really could be, I think Gerritsen has done a fantastic job with the details, which really make you feel like you could actually be there. And many holding your breath moments, a few times i had to stop reading to get my head together and tell myself i wasn't actually there. Any book that can make you feel like you are there is obviously very well written.
The story is written in a way that you just want to keep on reading. And thats exactly what I did. I was very lucky to get an early copy of this to read. And as this is one of those authors where it doesn't matter what they write you know you will buy it anyway, I was thrilled to get the early copy.
If you are a fan of Gerritsen's books, and have read the other 10 in this series, I really do think you will enjoy this. If you have not read any of her other books, then stop reading this now and go and treat yourself. You will not regret it.
