Review: Sinner

Sinner Sinner by Jacqui Rose
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Jacqui Rose is one of those authors that I don't even have to read the synopsis to know, I WILL BE READING THE BOOK. JR has never disappointed me with any of her books and she is one of my all time favourite authors.
This lady can write!
Sinner is the latest instalment in the Alfie Jennings & Franny Doyle series of books. I love these characters, have loved following them on their journeys. For me personally the story is better as I've read all the previous books. I wouldn't say you needed to read them all first, but I always find you get a better feel for the characters. For me in this book Franny seemed a very different person, obviously things that have happened in the past have contributed to this, and while things are explained as you go along, a better feel is had by reading the books in order.
When an old face rears his ugly head, Alfie Jennings is not happy, facing pressures and seeming somewhat stressed out, Franny pleads with Alfie to slow down, move away again but it seems to be falling on deaf ears.
With his business under threat Alfie Jennings seems to have it all on his hands. With the tension building it isn't long before Franny and Alfie have trouble in their life. Franny is also trying to keep secrets hidden, but how long she can do this for is anyone's guess? The past could be coming to bite everyone.
This book has you gripped from the opening pages, starts with a boom and ends with a boom. Filled with suspense. Each and every page from start to finish, I couldn't turn them quick enough. I wanted to read and find out what was going on, what was going to happen, then I wanted to slow down and savour the book because I knew I'd have a while to wait for the next one. Everything a Jacqui Rose fan will want in a book.
Ideal for fans of Mel Sherratt, Jessie Keane, Casey Kelleher, Emma Tallon.

Review: Backlash

Backlash Backlash by Marnie Riches
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Another brilliant read from this very talented author. I don't think I've read a book that I haven't enjoyed by M.R
This one is just great, its the second book to feature Private Investigator Beverley Saunders and her odd side kick, Doc..
A serious story to follow but I love the humour that is slotted in here and there.
I especially loved Bev when she became Gail, she was a great character to read about.
The relation ship between Bev and Doc is done brilliantly. the put downs and come backs between them are priceless. I chuckled so much while reading this. Yet it covers some serious topics, and some of the crap that is blighting Manchester at the moment, 'Spice' A crazy drug that see's people hooked pretty much as soon as they start it. it's an evil drug and I think covering subjects that are very topical in the news etc is brilliantly done.
I loved how many of the places mentioned in this book that I actually knew, that i'd been to, places i'd visited and places up the road from where I live.

Review: Westwind

Westwind Westwind by Ian Rankin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was eager to read this book. Something a little different from an exceptional author. I believe this was written way back, right at the start of Rankins writing career and has been re released and published again.
It was one of those books that you really don't know what to expect. At times I got a little lost with the story line, but overall it was an interesting read.
I believe any fans of Rankin will enjoy this book and will be in for a read treat.

Review: The Bad Fire

The Bad Fire The Bad Fire by Quintin Jardine
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I absolutely love this series of books. I get so excited when I know a new one is due out, and it was no different this time around.
Back with the familiar characters that I feel I've grown with over the years. Back being nosey wanting to know what the latest thing is in their lives.
I find when reading a series of books you become just as involved in the characters lives as you do in the story lines.
This time around things are mainly based around Alexis Skinner, 'Big Bob's eldest child. Alex has turned into a woman to be reckoned with In her own right and not just as the daughter of 'Sir Bob'.
I have to say although we are at book 31, the author has kept each and every book fresh and topical. There is no fear that as the series has gone on that it's started to go stale, no fear of that at all. Each and every one of this series is a first class read and once started I always struggle to put the books down until I've read them all. I know one day i will start right back at the beginning and do a major re read of these books. I don't want this series to end 'EVER.

Although Bob Skinner is no longer a serving officer, he is certainly still heavily involved in the force. Its almost like he can't help himself, he always seems to still be in the thick of every major case.
Alexis has taken on a case that opens up a whole can of worms, a cold case trying to determined if a death was suicidal, accidental or something else. Alexis takes the case and enlists the help of one of her investigators and the story becomes a whole lot crazier. What a fantastic storyline this was to follow. I really didn't want this book to end, as always Quintin Jardine could write a book with 2000 pages and i'd still want to read more.

Review: Escape to Giddywell Grange

Escape to Giddywell Grange Escape to Giddywell Grange by Kim Nash
My rating: 0 of 5 stars

Oh my days, Kim Nash has become an author that can very easily drag me away from Crime fiction and over to the bright side.
I actually hasn't realised this new author had another book coming out so soon as due to health reasons I've been keeping myself off social media most of the time and spent a little time reading books I'd bought as I felt I needed to fall in love with reading and not just do it for reviewing. Her first book Amazing Grace had me fall in love with a great feelgood book.
As soon as I saw Escape to Giddywell Grange on Netgally I had to request it and was thrilled when my request was approved. I started this book on a Friday evening and as much as real like kept wanting to take over I managed to finish it over the weekend.
It's a superb feel good read. A book you can dive in and out of comfortably and be transported the minute you start reading. It's also a book that really does make you think and take stock of your life and your surrounding. Makes you think just what is and isn't important in life and that some times things that happen, happen for a reason. When you are forced to take a journey down a path you wasn't expecting to take, it can still be the right path. You wouldn't have known it being the right path if what led you to it, hadn't happened. A real thought provoking read.
Many things going on in this book were so easy to relate to which makes the book feel so realistic that the places and characters come alive in your mind.
I loved the main character in this book, Madison. I loved the new track her life took when she was given the devastating news that she was to be made redundant.
Madison has lived for her job and not for herself. She really belived that work, work, work was what made her happy. The satisfaction of doing her job well and beliving that she was working for a company that really needed her. None of us are irreplaceable.
When you think life has kicked you down, there can only be one way to go and thats up. Can Madison find what does really make her happy and can she find a job she will love just as much.
Emotional, thought provoking, realistic read that certainly leaves you thinking things through. This book is one that will leave you thinking about it, long after you finish reading it.
Kim another amazing book you have written, loved, loved, loved every single page of it. I loved how characters from the first book were incorperated into this one, but it wasn't all about them. Keep these books coming, I can't wiat for more.

Review: Hunted

Hunted Hunted by Paul Finch
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Playing catch up while I've gotten the chance. I have no blog tours due so i'm spending my time reading and reviewing books that got lost in my ever growing kindle list.
I have to admit I've enjoyed my reading so much these las few weeks, flying through books i'm reading because I can, not because I feel I need to get them read for tours.. I love being part of book tours and spreading the book love but have to admit i'm loving being a free spirit at the moment.

Detective Mark Heckenburgh Book 5. WOW what a fantastic read. I hate myself that it's taken me so long to read this fantastic book. But thrilled that I can now read and play catch up.

It's great being back in Hecks life.
A fantastic gripping thrilling read that will certainly keep you on the edge of your seat. Full of turns, I couldn't click to turn my pages quick enough.

Review: Life or Death

Life or Death Life or Death by Chris Merritt
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

i've been a big fan of this series and can't believe I've actually fallen behind with it. That is put right now as I've just managed to read book 3 and what a read it was.
I love the tormented character that is Zac Boateng. He's a true family man as well as a hard working officer. His family is his world and he will do all he can to protect them.
I actually couldn't turn the pages of this book quick enough. It had me hooked from the word go. Then you start to tell yourself off because you could have read this book so much sooner than I did.
As I say with all books in a series, it could be read as a standalone but you would miss out on so much of the back story that for me it needs reading as part of the series and in the correct order.
This for me was the best book in the series so far, The author knows what his readers and want and delivers it with cherries on top.
An edge of your seat thriller you really don't want to miss.

Review: Tightrope

Tightrope Tightrope by Marnie Riches
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This got bumped up my TBR pile after reading some great reviews on it. The description of this book got me excited to read it.
Having a failed marriage behind her Bev is living in the basement flat of a wealthy friend. Her former career is over and Bev needs to be doing something to bring in some money. Her bills are piling up, her rent isn't being paid.
Beginning to do Private investigative work, Bev soon has a client in need of her help. The wife of The Shadow Science Minister want's a divorce. Her husband is nasty and controlling and she's desperate to break away from him.
This book had me hooked, well and truly hooked. You know from quite early on that this story was building up to something big, something explosive, which means every opportunity I had to sit and read some more. Not sleeping also helped as instead of arguing with my self that I needed sleep I just picked up my kindle to read some more.
A superbly written story that felt very different to have the main character as a private detective rather than a police officer or gangster. I love that the setting of this book in and around Manchester meant that I knew a lot of places that were mentioned. I always find it really helps add to the visual of the story. The character of Bev was first class, I loved everything about her, in fact I loved everything about this book it's gritty, thrilling, an edge of your seat page turner but with some humour throughout. This book has everything, and more.
Is Bev getting herself in too deep and causing herself more upset than is needed? Can she help Alison break away from her controlling husband. Well to find out you need to read the book and I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending this book.

Review: Fear in the Lakes

Fear in the Lakes Fear in the Lakes by Graham Smith
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I just knew as soon as I started this book that I wasn't going to be disappointed. Mr Smith certainly knows how to write a book that will drag you in at page one and spit you back out at the end, leaving you wanting more. I'm loving this series.
When DC Beth Young is given a new case to investigate it's all systems go. Found at home by his wife, James Sinclair is on the edge of life, an attack that was so vicious , so nasty that Beth know whoever has done this needs to be caught and caught soon. It seems James had no enemies and got on with everyone. But it's clear to Beth that this can’t be the case or this man wouldn't have just been found looking like he'd been hit with a speeding train.
Beth and her investigating team are soon put to the test when two more bodies are found. It's time to look into things more and start examining who could be responsible for these crimes.
There has to be some connection somewhere, it's time to did in to their pasts and see what answers are thrown up.
I'm loving the character of Beth, and it's good to see she getting on with her private life and not all work. Beth is a great character that over the last few books I really feel we have gotten to know her. She has demons that she wants answers to and it seems in this outing she is going to find the answers she needs.
This was a fast read and I seemed so engrossed I devoured it in no time at all. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I have no problems recommending this book at all. As with all of this authors books once you start them it's difficult to put them down. I look forward to reading more of this series and believe it's just getting better and better.
Personally I would advise that you read these books in order as you get the feel for the characters a whole lot better. It could be read as a standalone but for the best of the characters then knowing their back stories is best.

Playing catch up with this series, I'm not sure what else I can say about these books that I haven't said in the past. Real page turners and thrilling. These books drag you in from the word go and don't let you go until the very last word. This author certainly knows how to write and knows what the readers want from a thrilling read. He manages to deliver this with each and every book.

This book has been brilliantly written.
Once started I found this really difficult to put down. It's book 3 in the series and it's a series I will certainly be following.
I now need to go and buy the next book. This can be a good thing when you have fallen behind in a series, you get to read them back to back.
I have no hesitations in recommending this book.

Review: The Unlucky Ones

The Unlucky Ones The Unlucky Ones by Kerry Wilkinson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

It's no secret, I'm a huge Kerry Wilkinson fan and an even bigger fan of his Jessica Daniel series. I can't believe here we are at book 14. Wow, this woman has been through some stuff.
Each and every book for me just get's better. It's not just the stories and the cases that drag me in, I love following the lives of these fictional characters, and Jessica Daniel feels like a personal friend. I know more about her than I do of myself.
Another great instalment here to the series. I find when there are so many books in a series it's so much better to read the books in order.
This one didn't feel as action packed as some of the other books, but still a superbly enjoyable read, I loved how we got to see more of Jessica in her private life as well as her work life.
The team are investigating an accident in which Jessica herself was involved with, the story flows along nicely and in parts really does grip you. A second case is woven into the story and really drags you along with it.
Another superb read from an author who for me just doesn't write fast enough. Saying that if He released a book a week i'd still complain it wasn't quick enough.
I look forward to reading more, and can't wait for the next one.

Review: Dead Inside

Dead Inside Dead Inside by Noelle Holten
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Well, well, well. What a debut this is. This book is going places. Thrilling from the first page to the last, brilliant story, brilliant characters, turns you wouldn't expect, wow, this book has it all. Everything you need for an unputdownable read.
It's hard to believe that this book is actually a debut. it's written like it's by an author who has many, many books under their belt.
For a crime thriller it was great to see not only what goes on with the Police, but how some things worked in the probation side of it. I also loved the Characters, so many familiar names in there that I felt I already knew the characters and had their image in my head each time I read about them.
I loved that the chapters were kept short, it gives you the chance to just keep saying one more chapter. There is just something I love about books with short chapters.
Lucy was an amazing character to follow. Working for probation and specialising in Domestic abuse, Lucy is very good at the job she does. She is assertive and in control. If only this was the case in her private life. Lucy is the victim of domestic violence, you would think this would be something Lucy would get away from but her husband Patrick seems to have such an influence over her it's scary. It's almost like Lucy is playing the part of two different people. You have to read the book to fully understand this, Its amazing the effect Domestic Abuse has on people and how people can find ways of hiding it. Being fearful of her husband is something I really couldn't imagine for myself, as they say you never know what goes on behind closed doors.
Patrick is a man you just want to hate, although he does seem to have a nice side somewhere it's a shame that side of him isn't the real Patrick. His character really got on my nerves, I don't mean in a way that put me off the book, I mean he was someone I could have happily done harm to. He frustrates me so much that he could be like he was with his wife.
There are a whole host of other characters in this book that I really did like, and i'm hoping to meet them again when Noelle's second book comes out in November.
The overall story of this book, even though it was based around a not so good subject of Domestic Abuse it was done fantastically. A fast paced plot, and a story you just lost yourself in. If you are going to read this book then please, clear your diary first.

Review: What She Did: A gripping psychological thriller with an unforgettable twist

What She Did: A gripping psychological thriller with an unforgettable twist What She Did: A gripping psychological thriller with an unforgettable twist by Alex Kane
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Best friend and worst enemy.
I started this book as soon as I finished 'No Looking Back' As I finished that book I knew right away I needed to read more by this author.
A great writing style and a story that you are drawn into. A story that keeps you wanting to read on. There were parts of the book I wasn't keen on and parts of the book that I loved and needed to keep going with it.
Another good read overall and I look forward to reading more.

it's told from alternating points of view, going back and forth from past to present, and I have to be honest at times I got a little confuzzled and had to go back a bit.
There are some great twists and in parts it really does hook you and keep you turning those pages.

Thanks for the chance to read and review this book.

Review: The Boss

The Boss The Boss by Caz Finlay
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Ohhh my dayzzzz. What a read!
Loved this book, absolutely loved it. I wanted to follow Grace's life forever, I wanted to part of it. Hell there were times in this book I actually felt like I was sat on the bar stool in the Rose & Crown listening and watching the comings and goings.
I really felt like I'd walked into this book, the moment I started reading it, I knew it was one I was going to be lost in.
Grace is taking back her life. Little by little. Having suffered in an abusive marriage it's time for Grace to put on her big girl knickers and tackle the monster that was once her husband, Nathan.
Nathan is a nasty, sly piece of work and you can really see the damage he has done to Grace. He's a typical charismatic villain Unfortunately he's also controlling and manipulative. The good looks, the gift of the gab, but no more, it's now graces to turn to show who is the boss. This is a fight for the top and you won't want to miss out on being part of it.

Set in Liverpool this Gangland thriller has everything you want from a book that is going to keep you reading until the early hours. Great twists and characters you will either love or hate. A fantastic story line with plenty packed into the pages that will keep you rooted.

I'm not always a fan of books that go from past to present, but this was done perfectly to help you get to know the characters and their back story.

Suffering with a chronic illness sometimes has it's advantages as I woke twice during the night, got up made a cuppa and got back in bed with my kindle. It didn't take me to long to get through this bad boy. Trust me when I say 'it's a book that's not to be missed'

Caz Finlay is going to be an author to watch for in this genre. She will soon be up there with some of the best. I really look forward to reading a lot more from this author. Fans of Jessie Keane, Jacqui Rose and Casey Kelleher will absolutely love this book.

Review: No Looking Back: A totally gripping crime novel that will keep you hooked

No Looking Back: A totally gripping crime novel that will keep you hooked No Looking Back: A totally gripping crime novel that will keep you hooked by Alex Kane
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I've been wanting to read this book for so long. I first won a copy of Chasing the Traveller, which this book was first called. I didn't get around to reading it for one thing or another always got in the way. Deciding I needed to read some of the books I wanted to read and not just books I needed to review, I dived into this one while passing away time as my little girl was in theatre. I knew the beginning of it quite well as I seemed to have started it not taken anything in then started again, repeat.
I decided to wait until we got home and I could sit back and actually get started with out interuptions.

Once I started there was no stopping me, Although the subject matter isn't a nice one, I found this such an easy book to read. I wasn't trying to take in eleventy billion characters and figure out who was who. We follow the story, the life of Kat Denton. A lady who is in a very abusive and controlling marriage. This story follows Kat on a massive journey. I really had strong emotions through this book and really did feel for Kat. When she finally escaped the marriage we see Kat returning to how things all started, learning of her life before meeting Jimmy and then how things changed once she met him. Her life could only get better but how she does this is up to her.
This book really shows what can happen when in a controlling, abusive relationship. How things are portrayed as 'normal'. how a person can start to believe that they are at fault for everything they do wrong, and even everything they do right. The author has done brilliantly bringing this subject out, and showing that we never know what goes on behind closed doors, as they say.
Brilliantly written and a fantastic yet easy read.

Review: The Rules

The Rules The Rules by Kerry Barnes
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What did I think?
Well where do you start, there is so, so much I want to say about this book, this series. It's absolutely brilliant, it's one of those books that once you start you get lost, lost in the pages, lost with the characters, nothing else in the world matters at the time of reading because you can't think of anything else other than the book. Epic, Just E P I C! This is a must read. This will be going on my 2019 'Must Read' list
I loved the previous book 'The Hunted' and was so looking forward to this, now I've finished 'The Rules' I need 'The Choice' and I need it now. I know there are bigger problems in the world, but my biggest problem in my bookish world is waiting on book 3. July can't come quick enough.
This is one of those books, you want to scream and shout about, but have to be so careful as to not give anything away. What I can say is I love the characters, I love the story line, I have gotten to know a little more of each charcter as the book has gone on and feel like i've been on a journey with them. I really can't wait to find out what is in store next.
Kerry, keep these coming, keep these amazing characters and story lines you make up in your head, oming, becuase i need more.

Review: Hush Hush

Hush Hush Hush Hush by Mel Sherratt
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Another hit, another great book written by this very talented author. DS Grace Allendale is not only starting out with a new team, the first new case she is faced with is investigating one of the local crime families, which turns out to be her own family. Her estranged family, she's certainly not close to any of them. This had conflicting views from all around. Her team didn't know if they could trust her and her family didn't want anything to do with her. It certainly added an edge to this story.
Can Grace and her team figure out who is murdering men in their city, before the count rises?
This certainly turned into a real page turner, once I managed to get around to reading the book, I couldn't wait to pick it up, each time I had chance to sit down, I did so with this book.
It's a great start to what I believe is going to be another damn good series by this author. The pages of this book are packed with everything you would expect from a Mel Sherratt book, with a little more thrown in. I sure can't wait to read more.

Review: A Body in the Lakes

A Body in the Lakes A Body in the Lakes by Graham Smith
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Well...
What can I say.
Nothing I say will do this book the justice it so rightly deserves. Graham Smith is one hell of a writer. (Have I said that before?)
Dragged into the pages right from the beginning before you are spat out right at the end, wanting more. I love the characters that Mr Smith has created. Not just here in the Detective Beth Young series, but also in other books i've read by this author.
He has a knack for giving you what you want in damn good read.

i'm waffling again. But I just love books by this author. I look forward to each and every new book coming out, and as soon as I receive a copy, I have to start it. It doesn't matter what else i'm reading at the time, that has to stop. Curl up, clear your diary and get set for one hell of a ride.
Back with Detective Beth Young and still getting to know her, but liking her more each time I picked up the book. A tough story line to write, but I feel Mr Smith did it wonderfully. With some amazing twists this book keeps you hooked. Wanting and needing to know what is going to happen. Wanting to know the 'who dun it'
Beth is working for the Major Incident Team in the Lake District. A dedicated individual, who likes to get on with things a bit of a tough cookie and has a wonderful mind for working things out. A true asset to the force. I can see this girl going places, and I'm hoping to be on the long journey with her.
(now there is an idea Mr Smith. Maybe Beth needs a new team mate, a Vicki in her life. lol)
Although it was lovely being back in the Lakes, its such a beautiful place, a beautiful background to a very disturbing case. Faced with the discovery of an elderly lady having been murdered its work caps on and case open. Beth really is work oriented, she lives and breathes the force, giving it everything she has. Thinking they had a lead on who the murderer could be seemed to come to soon, I was thinking what, no way... obviously it was no way, but a great way of getting you hooked. It really got my tiny brain working. Once the team realise what a sick individual they are looking for, some leads take them to looking back over cold cases, could this be a killer that has been out there for a long time.
For me this book had it all, not for the faint hearted, but any crime thriller reader will love this. Treat yourself, you know you want to...

Review: Born Bad

Born Bad Born Bad by Heather Burnside
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Finally got my act together and re started this series, I read this the first book a good while back and then neglected to carry on with the series, not because of the series I just seemed to get lost reading everything else on my back list.
Rather than setting off again at book 2, I decided it would be better to re read book one and refresh my mind, i'm glad I did. It was as enjoyable the 2nd time as it was the first. I'm hoping this series is going to be as awesome as it seems and I'm really looking forward to catching up with the rest of the books.

The story set in Manchester is based around a family growing up, the evil of domestic violence and a crappy childhood and the impact it can have on young lives when growing up.

Its gritty, tense and a damn good read.

Review: The Girl You Lost

The Girl You Lost The Girl You Lost by Kathryn Croft
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Well having a few days needing complete rest has really helped me get through a few books, I decided at the start of the year I would get through some of the older books I have outstanding that need reading. So here I am, this time around I have chosen The Girl You Lost by Kathryn Croft.
What did I think.
This is one of those books that has characters that are real and feel almost like you know them. It's a Psychological thriller with twists galore. You really do get dragged into the story of this book.
How do you cope with life when your child is snatched. How do you move on from something as heart wrenching as that. 18 years later Simone is confronted by a young lady who believes she is her daughter.
A lot of questions need answering but when Grace the young lady who confronted Simone, believing to be her daughter disappears again, there are even more questions to be answered.
Simone is then on a mission to find the truth. A race to find the answers needed could cause a whole heap of trouble and danger.
As the truth becomes closer you really find yourself wanting answers, for a good outcome, for things to be solved and work out.
Very cleverly put together and makes interesting reading.

Review: The Sting

The Sting The Sting by Kimberley Chambers
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

OMG.... Well worth the wait, but come on! Did I really expect anything other than perfection.
What an OH my GAWDDDD read.....
Loved it from the opening pages. I was fooled for a page or two as I thought this was going to be quite a tame read, It wasn't. It was what we have all come to know as ' typical Chambers'

Put your feet up, clear your diary and get ready for the ride of your life.

Tommy Boyle didn't have the best start in life, losing his mother early in his life set a path for Tommy. A path in which he'd grow up having to make his own choices and take on the world.
When Tommy is forced to live in a children's home it's hard to see how life for a young boy can be. The troubles that a young life has to go through. Yet no matter what troubles Tommy seems to have friendships, yet can friendship hold the test of time?
This book is packed with some amazing characters, Tommy was certainly one of my favorite, a character that was not only likeable but also believable. His childhood girlfriend Scratch was another brilliant character, following their mixed up lives took me as a read on an emotional roller coaster.
What Danny Darling becomes friends with Tommy, neither of them know what their future is going to hold. If they'd had a glimpse of it, would they have lived their lives so differently.
It's such a brilliant book, but such a difficult book to write down your thoughts about. There is so much I could, and want to say but I can't risk spoiling anything for other readers, so this is where the waffle stops. BUY IT, YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!
A first class page turner for sure, any KC fan will love this book.
Why did I keep expecting one of the Butlers to pop up somewhere. lol

Review: The Puppet Show

The Puppet Show The Puppet Show by M.W. Craven
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I was thrilled when I received a paperback of this book to read. I'd seen some of the hype around this book on social media, and was eager to get started. I seem to take longer when reading a paperback as I don't tend to take them out with me all the time, so I purchased the kindle copy so I could read the paperback in the comfort of my home and carry on reading while I was out and about at various appointments. It really is a bloody gripping read. To start with I wasn't sure what to expect but once I started, it turned in to a read me now type of book, meaning I had to read at every opportunity.

Set in beautiful Cumbria, bodies are being set on fire in prehistoric stone circles. When one is found to have the name of disgraced Detective Washington Poe (what a fab name that is) carved in to his body, Washington Poe is called back for duty with his suspension lifted. Having been suspended for allowing documents to get in to the wrong hands, Poe returns to work. Working with The Serious Crime Unit it's down to Poe and the team to try and piece together what the hell is going on, and why.
The killer has been named as The ‘Immolation Man’
Poe is teamed up with Tilly Bradshaw a data analyst, who literally says what she is thinking, she has no brain to mouth filter and some of what she comes out with is first class. I love the way this character has been developed through this book and I have to say this series is going to be one I'm following for Tilly alone. I adored her. A first class character. The relationship that grows between Poe and Tilly is fascinating. It's refreshing to see a character like Tilly in books. And I think the author has done an amazing job portraying her character. I'll not go into anymore detail, i'll you read the book to understand what I mean.
Getting to know Poe through the story was brilliant, learning his back story and what makes him tick, this has all been set up nicely for future books.
Poe and Tilly are lead by DI Stephanie Flynn who has temporarily replaced Poe after his suspension. Poe is now working under her. Flynn is another great character, How will things work out between her and Poe now the roles are reversed.
This book, the story was highly entertaining, gripping, captivating, gruesome and one I didn't want to end, if I could have had 100 more pages, I still don't think it would have been enough to feed my want for more. One of the best police procedurals I have read. Why have I not read anything by this author before? OMG he can write. #NewFanHere
This book is the first one this year to get put in to my 2019 Must Reads.

Review: Boss Girl

Boss Girl Boss Girl by Emma Tallon
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

My thanks to @Bookouture and @Netgalley for the Ecopy ARC of this book.

My thoughts

Well I have to say I was thrilled to be reading this book. I absolutely loved Runaway Girl and Dangerous Girl, so I was eager to get back in to the lives of the characters I've been getting to know, and what characters they are. Emma certainly has a knack of creating memorable characters. Her writing style is unique, being dragged in to the story and pulled along before you are left absolutely breathless at the end. Emma is way up there now amongst the best authors of this genre and without even knowing the title or reading the blurb Emma is one of those authors for me now, who no matter what the book is, I will need to read it. It's hard when you read so many books to keep getting something different, something fresh. This author certainly manages it and some more besides. I think by now you might have guessed I loved this book.

I really don't want to be giving to much away as far as the story goes, I really don't want to spoil the enjoyment for this book for anyone. Because believe me, this is one read you will want to sit and devour without any spoilers.

Back in the lives of Anna, Freddie and Tanya. Anna having fled a bad relationship and starting over again became very good friends and business partners with Tanya. Between them they manage their clubs. Freddie is Anna's boyfriend who is a big part in the London criminal underworld.
Having become successful in what she does and with all she has been through Anna is normally quite guarded around friendships and who she can trust, needing to keep one step ahead or things can go very wrong. Things go very wrong for Anna and it's down to Freddie to put them right. Is it to late, has Anna let her guard down maybe just a little to much. Who can and who should she trust?

This is not your typical London Gangster, crime type book, this is one of the best. Fast paced, full of action, enough to keep you on your toes and wanting more, and then some more...
Loved how this book ended, it certainly leaves you knowing that there is more to come, I for one cannot wait...
These books could be read as standalones, but seriously to get the full back history of the characters and to fully appreciate them, they really would be better read in order.

First class read, had me hooked and is going on my 2019 Must Reads list!

Review: Cold Case

Cold Case Cold Case by Quintin Jardine
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow... Book 30 in the Bob Skinner series. A series I have said many times before that I truly love reading. There have been a whole heap of colourful characters in this series, some amazing characters whose lives I have followed through the pages.
Bob Skinner no longer the Chief Constable of Edinburgh, now just plain old Bob, if there could ever be a plain old Bob Skinner that is.
Bob has a way of attracting trouble, of getting involved in things to help out his friends. Bob is the go to guy when friends find they need help. Although he no longer works for the police, he does work on private commissions, he is also now carrying around as he puts it ' a piece of plastic that gives him Security Service credentials, he could be asked for help at any time.
This time around it's Sir Jimmy, or 'proud Jimmy. Bob's ex boss as it was. The ex Chief Constable, who is in need of Bob's services. Sir Jimmy wants closure on an old case and knows Bob is the man to help. I'm not going into to much regarding this story as it would inevitably give too much away.
There are a whole heap of the wonderful characters we have gotten to know through the previous 29 books, I can't believe this is book 30. It's one of my all time favorite series of books, I have no hesitation what so ever recommending these books. I will say though for the best of them, they need reading in order. I know at some point this is a series I will go back and re read.
One thing I will say is, I wish I hadn't been in a public place when finishing this book. Tissues were needed for me.

I'm so ready for the next book and I really can't wait.

Review: Dangerous

Dangerous Dangerous by Jessie Keane
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Oh my dayzzz where has my head been. I have just done a 2 book Jessie Kean binge and thinking I was up to date, double checked goodreads, to find I hadn't read this one, so off I popped to Amazon to find out I purchased this book on 28 February 2015.
Why on earth do I do it? So thinking my hat trick of Jessie Keane books could be completed by reading the new book The Edge: (Ruby Darke Book 3) I was wrong, I finished it by reading this one. So lucky me I still have another one to read, which should then take my little binge up to 4 Jessie Keane books in a row. The down side of reading such amazing books back to back is finding something to match the high standard of writing I'm getting used to.
This book was a standalone.
15 year old Clara Dolan is about to have her world blown apart when her mother dies, Clara has to take charge and take on the responsibility of her younger brother and sister.
Clara has to flee from her home before the authorities realise she is underage and to young to be looking after her siblings. In a very short space of time Clara has to grow up and grow up quickly. Thinking she is doing the right thing by her siblings Clara Has to find someone who can help and support them. This is exactly what she does. This is not without problems and as time goes by Clara is on a mission to get what she wants, Money to fund her and her siblings lives.
Packed with some brilliant and some not so brilliant characters this book takes Clara on a huge learning curve, some amazing twists and a fantastic story line this will have readers gripped from the start.
Well worth reading and I would highly recommend it.
