Review: The Dead Ground

The Dead Ground The Dead Ground by Claire McGowan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Firsly I would like to thank the publishers for sending me a paperback copy of this book for review. I also ended up buying the book on kindle so my Mum could enjoy it. And as I don't always have room to store books, it's a good way of getting to keep a copy.

Book 2 in the Paula MaGuire Series. I recently read book 1 The Lost And really enjoyed it.
You can read my review of that on my blog. or clicking here.

So here we are again back with the wonderful Paula. She's a little mixed up this time, with things going on in her private life that she is so unsure of.

She is faced with helping on a kidnapping case, as a forensic psychologist she works very closely with the police in the missing persons unit. Sometimes a little to closely.
This case soon turns into a murder case, and its down to the team to figure out what the hell is going on, and why babies are being taken from their parents.
Is there a link somewhere of is it just some mad Man/Woman taking them randomly.

Time is running out, if they are to save other babies, and save themselves then this team needs to act and act fast.

As I said this is the 2nd book I have read from this author featuring Paula McGuire, and she's a character I'm really beginning to like. I keep rooting for her, want to tell her off when she makes the wrong decisions, and root for her in what she does.
I was gutted I didn't get the answer to the one question throughout this book, that I wanted to know. ( I wont say as I don't want to spoil it). But I am so glad I now have book 3 to start, and I'm sure then next book will have to answer those lingering questions.

Overall - An interesting read, you can get lost in the story, and feel a part of it. I would recommend reading the first book for the character background. But all in all a good book and a 4/5 from me.

Review: The Lost

The Lost The Lost by Claire McGowan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Firstly I would like to thank the publishers for a review copy of this book. I've been fighting to get through my huge pile of books I need to read and decided to start with this one as it's the beginning of a series.
Book 1 in the Paula Maguire series.

This book gets a 4/5 from me. It's an interesting read, and more than enough to keep you gripped and guessing.
After leaving her home town in Ireland, Paula was certain she would never go back, yet here she is heading back. As forensic Psychologist , Paula is working with a team to find 2 missing girls.
I can't help thinking Paula's character should have been a copper, as she does seem to think she is one from time to time.
That said I mostly liked her character, and I look forward to reading more from this series and getting to know Paula some more.
She has history and baggage, but she is a likeable character and I'm hoping she will grow and develop into something special over the next few books.

I have since bought this book for the kindle so that my mum could read it, I think she'll enjoy it too.

Review: The Night Stalker

The Night Stalker The Night Stalker by Robert Bryndza
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wowzers... another awesome read.
I thought the Girl In the Ice was good, but this series of books is just getting better. I always worry when I have read the first book, if the second book can be anywhere near as good, but I didn't need to worry this is a 5* + read.

Here we are back again with Detective Erika Foster, A lady who seems to have her own set of rules, and doesn't always do things by the book.
This story is set in a heatwave, which seems appropriate to me at the minute as while writing this review i'm sat in the garden eating icecream, and melting.
Erika and team are tasked to find a killer, and a horrible killer it is. It doesn't take long to realise we have a serial killer on the loose. But what have the victims got in common if anything. A Dr, an Author. Did the victims know each other? Something somewhere must link these victims. Or do we had a disturbed killer that is just killing random people.
One or two creepy moments in this book, and i'm sure most people reading this, will check at least once that there is no one hidden under their bed.
This book is certainly one of those books you get lost in, eager to read and find out what is going on, but then as you get towards the end, you don't want it to finish there is so much packed into the pages of this book it's breath taking, heart pounding stuff.
I've enjoyed getting to know Erika more in this book and think this is going to turn into one hell of an amazing series of books. I just hope Robert can continue to produce books this good.

Super big thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book. It was freaking awesome.
