Review: The Alibi

The Alibi The Alibi by Jamie Raven
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have to say I really did enjoy this book. I found it a very interesting but easy read.
Earlier this year I read Jamie Ravens Debut book The Madam. My review of that book can be read here. So when I saw this one available on Netgalley I couldn't help myself but request it, even though I had put myself on a Netgalley ban, while I try and play catch up with my outstanding books.

I have to say I'm glad i broke my Netgalley ban to get this book, because I thouroghly enjoyed it.

Crime reporter Beth Chambers seems to be someone who will do what it takes to get an exclusive story. And that doesn't alway mean following the rules.
Megan Fuller is an actress, or she was before she was murdered. Her Ex husband Danny Shapiro is one of the suspects and needs to make sure his alibi is water tight, he know's he didn't do it, but can he prove to others that he didn't.

The story in this book is totally beliveable, and at times I wanted to give Beth a slap or two for her wrecklessness, knowing she has a small child at home, upsetting some of the underworld criminals is not the best way to go. Having said that I reallly liked her character. I think her being a reporter really added to the intensity of the story.

The plot is done brilliantly the way it unfolds, and you are wondering all the way through which way the story is going to go.

I really got caught up in this book, and wanted to read it at every opportunity.
A Brilliantly well put together gritty story.

Review: The Madam

The Madam The Madam by Jamie Raven
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

What a brilliant read. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. So great big thanks to the Author, Publisher and to Netgalley for my review copy.

Where do you start? Well firstly this is a new author to me, so I'm always a little wary on what to expect. Having read the blub I kind of thought I would enjoy it. And I'm so glad I have read it, as it really was a bloody good read.
Lizzie Wells, Ex Call girl/prostitute what ever she want's to be called, Is The Madam. One night while working, she is suddenly covered in blood, in the same room as a man, A dead man!  And is subsequently arrested for his death and serves 3 years 11 months in Holloway prison, for Manslaughter. After pleading guilty to get the lesser charge, it doesn't stop Lizzie Claiming her innocence all the time she is there.
While inside she becomes friend and lover with Scar.
Upon release Scar is waiting for Lizzie and Lizzie is determined to find out just what happened on that night, that has robbed her of almost 4 years of her life. But things are certainly not going to be easy. There are going to be so many obstacles in her way. And maybe just maybe the truth needs to stay hidden.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, It's one of those you can really get stuck into early on, and then struggle to put it down.

I really liked the lead Character Lizzie Wells.  she is a very strong female character that is determined to get to the truth, no matter what. Only she doesn't always choose the right people to trust.
I enjoy books with gutsy ballsy women and this is certainly one of those.
I have to admit to that towards the end I has a slight lump in my throat. I think its brilliantly written and put together.

A super big thank you to the Publishers, Author and Netgalley for a review copy of this book.

Review: Anything He Wants 1: The Meeting

Anything He Wants 1: The Meeting Anything He Wants 1: The Meeting by Sara Fawkes
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I'm not going to do a review for this on my blog. Just here and Amazon.
But I think the best thing I can say about it is IT'S FREE!
It is a very quick read, and to be honest It wound me up reading.
Maybe I'm old fashioned, or because I've been with my husband for 22 years, I can't relate to a sex starved woman wanting to have sex in a life with a complete stranger.
I just don't get it. At least learn his bloody name. His line was "I can smell your arousal"
I laughed out loud, thought I'd try that one on my hubby, his reply was "It's sweat my love, I'm going for a shower, Have you had your medication today" lol
If you want to pass a little time then give it a read, but there are far better books out there to pass your time on.
Sorry but it really wasn't my cup O tea.
Having just read some of the reviews after I finished it, it's apparently being compared to the 5o shades shite, but I can't compare it as I only read the first two chapters of 50 shades and give up. Yet so many people loved it, so with this one I guess it just depends on what you like reading, some people have really enjoyed it and some haven't.

Happy reading.

Review: The Wronged

The Wronged The Wronged by Kimberley Chambers
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

OH MY GOD. Kimberley. You have written a book and half here.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first two books featuring the wonderful Butler Family. The Trap and Payback. And after the end of Payback, I thought Kimberley would really have her work cut out matching it, But no, Kimberley has not matched it. shes bettered it. This is why Kimberly Chambers is such a fantastic author . And I think this book has everything a book should have. It keeps you wanting more. Holding your breath, talking to the pages, laughing, screaming at characters.
I had decided before I started this book that I was going to take my time with it, and enjoy it. OHHH no that isn't possible, because once started you just can't help but keep going. Then you end up gutted that you have to wait, for Kimberley to bring out another book.

What A fantastic read.

I would really like to suggest that if you have not read the first two books, then it really is worth doing so before you start this one. I think you would get away with just reading this alone, but you would enjoy it even more if you had read the previous two. Available here - The Trap. Payback. And if you haven't yet read them then Lucky you.... you can read all 3 back to back.

Again we visit the not so wonderful Butler family. A family that seem to make the rules up as they go along. Queenie and her sister Viv, still seem to be my favorite characters. I love the way they come across. I think a Life and loves of Queenie and Viv book should be written. I think the humour in Queenie and Viv, and their no nonsense ways is first class.
This book kicks off pretty much from the ending of the last one, and if you have read the last one you will know what I mean.
Michael and Vinny are The Buttler men, Vinnie is a man on a mission, someone not to be messed with, . Michael seems slightly more likeable, but certainly not loveable. His boys are slowly growing up, what sort of life would you want for your sons. I'm sure it wouldn't be a Butler life.
Little Vinny is well, just a little twat, or a big one as he has started to grow up now. I hated him in the last book, and I hated him in this book.
But my feeling for the characters is what helped me fly through this book. It doesn't matter which character you love or hate, you need to know what is going on with them, and therefore you have to keep reading.
I'm trying my best not to say everything I want to say about this book, because if like me you have waited a year to read it, then it would be so unfair to spoil any of it for you.

Review: Torn: A terrified girl. A shocking secret. A terrible choice.

Torn: A terrified girl. A shocking secret. A terrible choice. Torn: A terrified girl. A shocking secret. A terrible choice. by Rosie Lewis
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I thought I'd start the year off with something a little different. And I have to say I really did enjoy this book.
Rosie Lewis is a foster carer, I have read a few of Rosie's books, and enjoyed them all. I think they are brilliantly written. Covering some very difficult subjects and situations.
I think being a foster carer is an amazing thing anyone can do. I dread to think what could happen to some of these kids if it wasn't for people like Rosie.
Rosie really has her hands full with this placement, A sister and a brother, along with her own two children, Rosie's patience really is tested.
I'm worried about going into any details as I think it would give too much away, but what I will say is if this is they type of read you enjoy or if you have enjoyed previous books by Rosie Lewis, Cathy Glass etc., then you will thoroughly enjoy this.

I can really recommend this book, it really was a very interesting read. Wanting to carry on reading all the time so I could see how things worked out. A touching story.

Review: Hide and Seek

Hide and Seek Hide and Seek by M.J. Arlidge
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

finally caught up.
#HelenGraceBinge

If you have not read the previous books please do not read this review as it may spoil it for you.
Personally i would say if you are going to read this book, then it's best if you have read the previous books.
1Eeny Meeny
2Pop Goes The Weasel
3The Doll's House
4Liar LiarSeptember
5Little Boy Blue
6 Hide and seek

I've been playing a big catch up with this series and read books 4, 5 and 6 in a short space of time. It was great because as each book finshed, I could dive right into the next one without having to wait. What's not great is i'm now up to date which means I have to wait for more books to be written/published.

I have really grown to like Helen Grace, and throughout this book I was rooting for her. Helen is locked up, after being framed for murder. But the real killer is still out there, and what the hell can Helen do while she's inside. Could this be the end of  Helen Grace?

It's an outstanding read, keeps you on the edge of your seat. Keeps you guessing and guessing some more, because although you know why Helen is in prison (especially if you read the previous book) You are not prepared for what happens in there.

I'm worried about giving to much away so i'm going to shut up and just say MY GOD this is a series you really should be reading if you like a good crime thriller, with likeable characters.

ENJOY

Review: Little Boy Blue

Little Boy Blue Little Boy Blue by M.J. Arlidge
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Well that's book 5 read, and if i'm honest I have nothing but praise for this series. It's difficult to believe each time you read one of these books that the next one could be any better, but that is exactly what seems to be happening.
This is the fifth book in the Helen Grace series, a series I’ve grown to really enjoy. I’m a little behind with the series, but that’s not such a bad thing as been able to read this one as soon as I finished book four, and I can now read book 6 without having to wait.
As I said it’s a series I’ve really grown to like, I like the characters and I like how each case is different.
If you haven’t read any of this series, then I really can recommend it. But I would say read it from book one, you could probably get away with reading it on it’s own, but I think you get a better feel for the story if they are read in order.

It really is more interesting when you have followed the characters and got a feel for their back history. I always feel when I’ve followed a series as though I personally know the characters, and this is certainly the case here.
I enjoy the character that is Helen Grace; she’s very different, I would say unique. But I really do like her, and the way she works.
She’s been good friends with Charlie, who has also appeared in each book, and this time I think their friendship is really tested, especially so as Helen can’t seem to open up and tell her the truth.
In this book we have a complex case involving murder of someone Helen knows from her past. It’s tough for Helen, and she can’t decide if to reveal that she knows the victim or not as it would then lead to her admitting what she likes to do in her free time. And Helen really does like to keep her private life PRIVATE.
Helen’s arch enemy the Journalist Amelia is also out for war with Helen. After their recent truce it now seems like the gloves are off again, and it’s all out war.

The ending of this book really hits you and I actually feel a little smug here, because by being behind in this series, I can now go on to read the next one.

I received the book via Netgalley, so thank you for approving my request. The views in this review are only my thoughts.

Review: Bloq

Bloq Bloq by Alan Jones
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

OH my days, I had read a good few reviews on this book, and fellow blogger Noelle of CrimebookJunkie had raved about it on social media. So I was totally thrilled when I received an email off the author asking if I would like a review copy of this book. Hell Yeah!

I don't know how but this little beauty managed to get lost in my kindle cluser of books. And when I spotted it last week thought oh hell I better read it. Wowzers i'm so glad I did. So a great big thank you the author #AlanJones for sending me a copy of this book, and so bloody sorry for it taking me so long to get around to reading it.

I just loved it, Everything about this book was just brilliant. It really shows amongst other things, just how far a fathers love goes for his daughter.
Bill is worried when his daughter doesn't get off the train for her Christmas visit. So after hanging around for the next two trains he realises she isn't coming. When he cant get any answer from her phone, he sets off to find her.
He finds leads that send him to a London nightclub 'Bloq' where his daughter had been visiting regular.
She's not there, but the hunt for her is on.
There is something going on the whole way through this book, and the suspence is fantastic.
It's brilliantly written with some great characters. Brilliantly put together. I wanted to keep reading this book at every chance, but the nearer I got to the end I really didn't want it to finish. If this book had gone on for another 1000 pages it still wouldn't have been long enough.
This is the only book I have read by Alan Jones, but I think it's safe to say it will NOT be the last.

Review: Liar Liar

Liar Liar Liar Liar by M.J. Arlidge
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the fourth book in the Helen Grace series, a series I’ve grown to really enjoy. I’m a little behind with the series, but that’s not such a bad thing as I’ve decided now when reading books that are part of a series, I’m going to read the whole series before I start anything else. So I now get to start the next book in the series. And trust me it’s only a good thing, because the way ‘Liar Liar’ ended, I NEED TO READ THE NEXT ONE. And I need to read it NOW.
I have to say, this is another bloody good read. The fourth in a series that is by far proving to be one of the best series of books I’ve read, and believe me I’ve read a lot.
It has you hooked the whole way through. And what I enjoyed is the short chapters as it means you just have to give one more chapter a go.
I seem to have read this at the right time of year as it’s based around December. Set in Southampton Helen Grace is back with a new case, Charlie Brooks is back from maternity leave, and trying to juggle mummy hood and work. The case for the team this time is what appears to be an arsonist. 3 fires have been set, all in a very short time scale, and the team are wondering if and why they are all linked, it’s not just homes, its businesses too.
It soon becomes clear when the second night another 3 fires are started, that they are certainly linked, but can Helen and her team figure out who or why before any more fires are started.
I love Helen and Charlie in these books, they great coppers, and I like the way they work and engage with each other, in work and outside. I like how we are still learning about Helen’s private life and Charlie’s home life as she struggles working now she has a little one.
I love how with each book the author manages to find new and interesting things to write about, and not one of the books feels samey as any other.
Helen has a new boss in this book, and the way this book went I think we’ll be hearing a lot more of him real soon.
This book will have you gripped the whole way through, read to spit you out at the end with an ending you just didn’t see coming. Bravo M J A... Brilliantly done.
I’d love to tell you a lot more, but luckily for me I have Little Boy Blue waiting on my kindle for me to start. So I’m off to read. Buy it, Enjoy it.

Review: Love You To Death

Love You To Death Love You To Death by Caroline Mitchell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Detective Ruby Preston Crime Thriller Series

 Book 1

Where do you start, when you have read a book like this, when writing a review becomes so much more difficult.
This is again one of those times when I really wish that I knew how to put my feelings and thoughts, into the correct words. Words that make it sound so much better than, things like, Read it. Buy it. You'll love it. Because basically that is pretty much all I want to say. It's when I wish I could come up with something that sounds intellectual, like I know what I'm talking about.
Well I'm not intellectual, but I do know what I'm talking about. I'm talking about a book, a book that is the first book in what can only be a freaking awesome series, if this first one is anything to go by.

It still amazes me that there are so so many crime, authors out there. Yet somehow this story is original, intriguing yet different all at the same time. I'm guessing Caroline's career in the police has greatly helped her when writing such a true to life story.

I have to say it was pretty creepy in parts. It will certainly have you holding your breath on more than one occasion.

We have women being killed, killed by someone they believe to be a daughter they gave up years ago, that in itself is creepy, but the way this book has been written and so brilliantly put together, well it just makes the hairs on your neck stand up.
Working the case is Ruby and her team. It's a tough case and has a very personal feel about it, to Ruby.

I really liked Ruby as a character, she was flawed, not perfect but doesn't really care. She has one hell of a screwed up personal life. And one that if she is not careful could screw up her work life to.
But I am so looking forward to see how this goes over future books.

I'm looking forward to seeing just where this series will go, and how the hell Caroline is going to manage to improve on this one. (NO pressure there Caroline).
I really can't wait for more from this series.

Review: Tragic Deception

Tragic Deception Tragic Deception by Linda S Prather
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Following on from the previous book Clever Deception, we are back with Alex Fox. She is now in America working for the New York Police, she is still out to find the man that changed her life for ever. "The Escape Artist"
She doesn't seem to fit in to well with the NYPD and doesn't seem to be liked by many people. But this doesn't seem to stop her from getting what she wants.

She is given 7 days to find 3 kidnapped babies, or face losing her job. Not easy in its self but when you have also been suspended it proves a little more difficult.

Well this is the 2nd book in this series, and i'm loving it. I'm waiting and wanting more. The character that is Alex Fox is brilliant. Gutsy and doesn't care.
I can really see this being a series to watch for. It's amazing that two authors can write together so well. And make it work. Well done to you both.

I was so lucky to get an ARC of this book in return for my honest review. And I really do think this is a book series worth reading.

I'm worried if I say to much that it will spoil it for others, and although it is only a short read it still packs a punch or two. What I would advise though is that you read the Novella that comes before this, Clever Deception. It's a great introduction to the series.

Review: The Worst Witch

The Worst Witch The Worst Witch by Jill Murphy
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was my little ones school book read. She's 6.
And she really enjoyed it. Read over 3 nights, this is the first book that is an actual chapter book that she's read. And at first she found it a little daunting, but once she got into it she read it with ease.
It's funny, my 6yr old self would have really enjoyed this book, and as it's as old as I am, I probably read it way back then.
She kept saying its like Harry Potter, Mummy. So I guess I can now see the reasoning behind the comments of an early Harry Potter style book.
It's really a timeless story, featuring Mildred Hubble, who goes to Miss Cackle's Academy, Mildred is real fun as she always seems to be the one who things go wrong for.
It really was an enjoyable read. And one we would probably read again one day.

Review: The Killing Game

The Killing Game The Killing Game by J.S. Carol
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What a story. How going out for lunch can change your whole life.
This book actually left me thinking of this scenario way long after I'd finished reading it.
It may not have helped my cause being sat in a local restaurant waiting for my hubby to arrive, I sat reading this on my kindle. (not while eating, just while waiting for hubz) But then all through lunch I kept looking at the door weighing everyone up as they come in.

Out lunching in a restaurant fit for the Hollywood fabulous. Business, Pleasure the guy that walks in with a bomb strapped to his chest really couldn't give two hoots why you are there. The fact is you are there, and for him, it's now time to play a game. A game of life.
What would you do to stay alive. Well this is what some of Hollywood's Elite are to figure out.

Part way through this book I was thinking it might go around the 4/5 star read for me, as I was enjoying it. But the more I got into the book, the more I enjoyed it and by the time I was getting near the end, I knew it would be wrong to give it anything less that a 5 star rating.

So many questions racing around your head while reading, as I say not only What would you do? But Why is this bomber doing it, what can motivate someone into going into a restaurant and holding innocent people hostage.
It really does get your heart racing, and maybe your blood pressure to. Make sure you have some nails to bite while reading this.

A book I really would recommend without hesitation.

A super big thank you to the publishers for an ARC of this book.

It's all about choices. Choose to live, Choose to die. it's your choice, or is it?

Dare I admit this is the first book I've read by this author, I know James Carol is writing here as J.S. Carol, but I haven't read any James Carol books previously. I'm sure that is now about to change as believe it or not when investigating this, I discovered that I have 3 of James books on my Kindle which I purchased in 2014 to 2015. How bad is that, having 3 books of a series I have purchased that I have not yet read.

Review: Saving Sophie

Saving Sophie Saving Sophie by Sam Carrington
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Karen is horrified when her 17 year old daughter, Sophie, is brought home by the police clearly drunk or worse still has she been taking drugs.
The relief her daughter is safe quickly turns to horror as she finds our her daughters friend is missing.
Sophie's big problem at this stage is she does not remember a thing from the night before. Absolutely nothing. How can that be? Was she really that wasted?

When the body of a young woman is discovered Karen and Sophie fear the worst for her friend.

Karen struggles leaving the home after going through a traumatic event a few years ago, the thought of leaving the house fills Karen each time with dread and panic attacks set in.
But as things take a turn and Karen seems to become more and more involved in what is going on it soon seems that Karen has got to leave the house to not only help her daughter but to keep her safe.

An interesting read, and goes to show just how far you will go to protect your child.
Enjoyable, but I have to admit that Karen really got on my nerves, and from time to time I could have quite happily slapped her.
That saying, it's worth reading and I look forward to reading more from this author.

A huge thank you to the author/publishers and Netgalley for an ARC of this book.

Review: Killer on the Fens

Killer on the Fens Killer on the Fens by Joy Ellis
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Firstly super big thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for an ARC of this book.

This is certainly one of my favourite crime/thriller series at the moment. And I look forward to hearing of more books in this series in the future. I will certainly be reading them. Joy Ellis certainly has a writing talent. She has written yet another gripping book, another book that you don't want to put down, it's certainly a page turner.
I recently finished book 3, and after it ended I couldn't wait to start this one, book 4. The books in order are
NIKKI GALENA SERIES
Book 1: CRIME ON THE FENS
Book 2: SHADOW OVER THE FENS
Book 3: HUNTED ON THE FENS
Book 4: KILLER ON THE FENS

Personally I would suggest they are read in order, as it gives you a better feel for the background of the characters.

So here we are, back with Nikki and back on the Fens. As if Nikki hasn't gone through enough recently (which is why I suggest reading the others first) she has now got to cope with her fathers death.
As he died the one last thing he said was EVE, the problem is Nikki doesn't know anyone called Eve, or where she can find her. But this was her fathers wish, and Nikki being the person she is will go all out to find out who she is.

This alongside a new case that she is working with her partner Joseph Easter. The discovery of a very injured drug dealer who seems to have fallen down a shaft. Investigating this turns up yet more horrors. Horrors that include strange noises and lights being seen over the marshes. There seems to be a lot more than just historical investigations going on over on the marshes but can the team figure out what is happening before things come to close for comfort.

Brilliantly written and woven together, it makes the twists and suspense in this book, leaving you wanting more.

Review: Something Hidden

Something Hidden Something Hidden by Kerry Wilkinson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I'm really beginning to like Andrew Hunter.
4.5/5

Super Huge thank you to the Author, Publishers and Netgalley for an ARC of this book.

I have to say I love Kerry Wilkinson's books. I'm a huge fan of the Jessica Daniel series, and I'm getting that way with this series to.

This is the 2nd Andrew Hunter book. Andrew is a Private Investigator, but he seems to just investigate all those things that no one else would be interested in. And seems that he rarely gets paid for most of his work, as he does seem to have a soft spot for a sob story. He might not always get paid, but he certainly goes above and beyond to find out what he want's to know. It's not always easy finding things out, and sometimes you have to delve further than anyone else to get to the truth, it also sometimes gets you into trouble, which is certainly the case for Andrew. I have really grown to like the character Andrew, but also his office assistant/receptionist/sidekick that is Jenny. She's also turning into a great character.

Andrew in this book, has to face up to things from his past too, he needs to start being honest about how he was able to set up his own business, and afford to live in one of Manchester's quite luxurious
apartment blocks in the city centre. But most of all, he need's to explain all this to his ex wife, who is certainly not going to like it.

I love how in all Kerry's books he always manages to get in a mention or two of the Great Manchester weather. It always tickles me when it's mentioned as only anyone living in and around Manchester will ever understand out great weather. I think you always get that little bit more from a book when you know the area that is featured, being able to clearly see things in your mind while reading is certainly an added bonus.

Kerry seems to be able to get the right balance between the serious stuff and the humour side to.
The only down side to Kerry's books is waiting for the next one. (not really an issue as I'm so patient...NOT)

Review: Strangers

Strangers Strangers by Paul Finch
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow What more can you ask for from a thriller. An exceptionally brilliantly brutal read.
I can see this growing into one hell of a major series. And I really don't think I can wait for more.
We are introduced in this book to PC Lucy Clayburn Who has been a copper for around ten-year with the Greater Manchester Police Force. There is just something that attracts me to books based in and around Manchester. Here Lucy works the Crowley division.
After lets say a major cock up when she joined CID she didn't last long there. But still would like to get back in.
She knows her stuff, and knows her area. But when asked to go undercover maybe she is stepping into the unknown. It's a great chance for her to prove herself, but there is far to much that could go wrong.
Hunting down A serial killer is no easy task, especially one as brutal as this one. going undercover Lucy befriends Tammy a Pisshead prozzie, who introduces her to Susy and get's her a job in the cloak room at one of Manchester's secret clubs.
Lucy is trying to get intel, and weather she can do this without being sussed out is proving a little difficult, you can't be seen to be asking to many questions.
And being a copper in Manchester it's no big stretch that one of these criminals that frequent the club might just recognise her.

I really did like Lucy as a character and can see her growing from strength to strength, she is by no means perfect, but maybe her mistakes can make her a better copper in the long run.

If you love your crime/thriller fiction just as much as I do then this is a book you really must read. It really does grip you right from the opening chapters and doesn't let you go until the end. I managed to read the first 25% of this book before my eyes finally gave up on me, I only intended to rest them a few minutes so I could carry on reading. It was 4 hours later when I woke up in the early hours, and picked my kindle up again, before I knew it I was racing round the house getting little one ready for school, then right back into the book until I finished it, only stopping to make a cup of tea or ten and a bite to eat.
I love it when I get engaged into a book like this. This book is one of those that becomes part of your life until you finish it.
This has got to land somewhere in my top 10 before the end of the year. It's not going to be easy choosing the books this year, there are far to many bloody good books out there.

A super big thanks to the publishers and Netgalley for allowing me an ARC of this book in return for my honest thoughts.

Review: Clever Deception

Clever Deception Clever Deception by M.A. Comley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, so firstly I'd like to say a huge thank you to the authors for allowing me an ARC of this book.
I loved it, A great start to what will hopefully be an ongoing series.
Although this is only a short read it doesn't lack anything you want from a bloody good read.
We are introduced to Sergeant Alexandra Fox, A character I really think I'm going to like.
The case she is working on is to hunt for The Escape Artist. A man who has all ready killed to many people and he really does need stopping.
The Escape Artist has asked Alex to Back Off, but she won't which could result in disastrous consequences.
I'm loving how Mel and Linda have teamed up to write this book, Its a truly brilliant read, well put together and well thought out.
I'm also lucky enough to have the next book ready for me to read, which I will hopefully be doing some time today.

Review: A Savage Hunger

A Savage Hunger A Savage Hunger by Claire McGowan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Well here we are book 4, and I have to say my favourite one yet. This series has just got better and better with each book.
It's been great having all 4 books to read and I've been able to jump to the next one as soon as I wanted to. So it's safe to say I'm a little bit gutted that I have to wait for the next one to be written. But as I say the way this series is going, I'm sure I wont be disappointed when it does come out.
We pick up this story two years on from the last book, which I must say are worth reading in order to get a better feel for the background history of the characters.
So here we are 2 years on, and Paula is set to get married. She is also working on a missing persons case.
Alice is missing, as usual Paula has to put everything into finding here, that also includes not wasting time looking for her perfect wedding dress or sorting out the finer details of her big day. All that is left to her hubby to be and her best friend.

Alice has gone missing from the church where she works as a caretaker, there is blood at the scene and a religious relic is also missing.
This also mirrors the case of a missing girl from around 30 years ago. Could it be the same person involved or something more sinister.

And I have to say the unanswered questions I had in the previous books have now been answered. It's funny I can't decide if those are the answers I was hoping for. lol
I'm really liking Paula as a character and really rooting for things to just be perfect for her, but we know that can't happen this is not a lovey dovey romantic novel. But still I find myself rooting for things to just go well for her.

This book is fantastically written and put together in such a way that you really do need to keep reading.
It really is a thrilling page turner.

I cant wait for more. A super big thank you to the Author, Publisher and Netgalley for a review copy of this book.

Review: Hunted on the Fens

Hunted on the Fens Hunted on the Fens by Joy Ellis
My rating: 0 of 5 stars

This is fast becoming one of my favourite series of detective books. I just love the characters in this book.
So I need to say a super big thank you to Netgalley, the author and Publishers for allowing me an ARC of this book.

I recently read the first two books in this series, and here we are at book 3, and I have to say the books get better each time. I didn't think it would be possible.
The story really drags you in, and I find myself rooting for the characters all the way through.
DI Nikki Galena and DS Joseph Easter just make the best partners ever. I love the way they interact, have banter but are a shoulder for each other when it's needed.
Another of the characters I really enjoy reading about is Cat. I loved her.

I know its said too often about books, but by god this really is one hell of a page turner. As soon as you start it, it's obvious that nothing else is getting done. Read, read and read. Because all the way through you need to know what is going to happen next, then you are hit with another twist, which then stops you from putting the book down.

If I could have one complaint about this book then it would have to be that it wasn't long enough, but in fairness I don't think 1000 pages would have been long enough for me.
I love it when reading a book that you manage to connect with the characters, and each individual one is different in their own right.

So enough of me waffling on, As I said this is the 3rd book in the series, and personally I would say you need to read them in order to be able to get a good feel for the characters, and a back history of their lives.

This book sends the team on one hell of a ride, their toughest case yet. Someone is out to harm them all in one way or another, the only problem is we don't know why. We get an idea of who they think it could be from early on, but the thing is have the team got it right, or are they chasing the wrong leads.

A first class page turner and a must read for anyone who likes to follow a brilliant series of detective thrillers.

I am so ready now for the next one, and I'm lucky enough to have it all ready on my kindle awaiting me starting it.

Review: Grow Wars

Grow Wars Grow Wars by Karen Woods
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I have read many of Karen's books and enjoyed them. I have to admit my all time favourites were Broken Youth and Black Tears. I just loved loved those two books.
Some of the later books, although are very good reads have a rushed feel to them. Karen writes about what she knows, and this always adds to the authenticity of the book. It helps make them believable because you know somewhere out there this is happening to some family on some estate somewhere.
I also enjoy the fact that the books are based in and around Manchester, and I find knowing the areas the books are set in really helps me visualise things better when reading them.
I did feel in this book that things were repeated a number of times, but once you get past this it really is a good story line.
While Harry has been inside, things have changed on the outside, and he's hoping once he is out he will become the face about town again.
But most of all his family have changed, and family being important to Harry he's going to have a job on his hands getting things back on track.
The book highlights the dangers of drug use, and what it can do to a person and a family. Once you are hooked Is there ever any going back.

I have bought each of Karen's books as they have come out, and I'm suddenly playing catch up, as Karen releases more books by back log has gotten bigger, but I plan to put that right.

Review: My Uncle Charlie

My Uncle Charlie My Uncle Charlie by Julie Shaw
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Having read the first book in this series, and then buying 2 more that then got lost away on my kindle, I decided it was time I caught up with the series as book 5 has now been published.
This is the 2nd book in the Tales of the Notorious Hudson Family.1.Our Vinnie
2.My Uncle Charlie

3.My Mam Shirley

4.Blood Ties

5.Bad Blood

We follow the story of Charlie. I loveable rouge. It was great following his life story, his ups and downs and amazing how his story changed so much. One mistake, one bad night and your whole life can change.
It was a very interesting book, and at some points quite emotional, with some great characters, and it was great going back in time.
It's very well written and put together and an easy read at just 240 pages.
I really am looking forward to reading the rest of this series to see what Julie brings us.

Review: The Accidental Hero

The Accidental Hero The Accidental Hero by Joshua Graham
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Firstly this is a very short story.
The kind of short that you can read while sat in a waiting room waiting for you appointment.
It's also free so that makes the fact it is so short ok.
The idea behind the story is very good, and I think given some thought this could have been made into a really good book, a really interesting story.
For me it was way to short, you don't get to know enough you feel you are just getting to understand the story and it that's it THE END.

Review: The Major Crimes Team - Vol 1: Lines of Enquiry

The Major Crimes Team - Vol 1: Lines of Enquiry The Major Crimes Team - Vol 1: Lines of Enquiry by Graham Smith
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What a great introduction to DI Harry Evans and his team I really liked the idea of this book, a collection of Short stories, each one featuring one of the individual officers. A great way to get to know them all, with some great short stories.
I can't say that any of the stories were my favourite or stood out from the others, as in my opinion they were all very well written and well put together. I find sometimes with short stories, that Just as they get going, they end. But I didn't feel that at all with these stories. They were very well written and very well put together.
I recently read Snatched from home, and although it's really not necessary I think I would have liked to have read this one first. And got more of an early feel for the officers. But there is nothing stopping me going back and reading it again.
I'm really looking forward to more Harry Evans, He's a very different and individual character and I for one can't wait for more books by Graham Smith.
I look forward to reading more.

Review: Screams in the Dark

Screams in the Dark Screams in the Dark by Anna Smith
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What a read. Anna Smith certainly has a way of dragging you right into the story and has produced yet another first class page turner. The action through this book was constant, and you are really kept on your toes wondering what is going to happen next.

For this story Rosie Gilmore #SuperJourno is investigating a missing refugee, after speaking with his friend Rosie thinks something isn't quite right and offers to see what she can find out. In typical Rosie style, every time she finds something out, she manages to get her self deeper into a story and deeper into trouble. It soon becomes clear to Rosie that there is a lot more going on and there is a reason these refugees are going missing.

Is there anything this woman wont do for a story? Rosie really does have a knack of getting herself into the thick of it and trouble just seems to follow her. She's certainly a woman on a mission, a bit like a dog with a bone. One sniff of a juicy story and she's all over it.

I have really enjoyed getting to know Rosie, and we see a little more of her home life/love life in this book. It's going to be interesting to see what happens to Rosie in future books, and I really cant wait to get stuck into the rest of them.

Anna Smith has certainly outdone herself in this book, A first class Page Turner.

Review: Devious Intention (A gripping psychological thriller)

Devious Intention (A gripping psychological thriller) Devious Intention (A gripping psychological thriller) by M.A. Comley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Firstly I'd like to say a huge super big THANK YOU, to Mel. Who sent me an ARC of this book. You never fail and I'm grateful for every chance I get to read one of your books.
So here we are book 3 in the Intention series, another cracking series from this amazingly talented author.
Just to help refresh my mind, as sometimes when you read so many books, you tend to forget little bits of each, so I did a re read of books one and two before this, and I have to say I enjoyed them just as much the second time around as I did the first time. You can click the images below to take you to my original reviews of each book.

Wowzerz.. what another great book from this very talented author. The list of books by Mel seems to be growing all the time, which for a reader like me is a bloody good thing.
In this book we meet Louise Gillespi, she is off on a holiday with her husband and young daughter. A family holiday by the seaside n Cornwall.
Only this getaway turns out to be no holiday for Louise. Her and her family are involved in a terrible car accident on their way there.
Waking up from the accident Louise seems to have concussion, and is told her husband and child were not in the car with her at the time of the accident. But how can that be she is sure they were all together. What's more she also discovers that she was driving and not wearing a seatbelt.
Very confused and not knowing what to do next, Louise has the very good fortune of ending up chatting to Ellen Brazil and her partner Brian Lynx, who are on holiday with Brian's daughter Cally. Louise soon starts to tell Ellen what has happened to her and can't believe her luck when it emerges that Ellen and Brian are Private investigators.
It now looks like although on holiday, they have a new case to work, they just can't help themselves.
So the big question that needs answering is Where are Louise's family?

Be warned the way this book is written once you start it, it is very difficult to put it down. You want the answers to the questions you have, and the only way to get them is to continue reading.
I am a huge MC fan and have read almost all of her books, I'm also a huge fan of The Justice series that she writes, but I have to say this series is slowly creeping up alongside it in my favourites.
Mel I can't help thinking you are making it hard for yourself to keep on topping each book you write, but somehow you keep doing it. Keep going girl. Looking forward to the next one.

Review: Christmas at the Little Village Bakery

Christmas at the Little Village Bakery Christmas at the Little Village Bakery by Tilly Tennant
My rating: 0 of 5 stars

Having recently read The Little Village Bakery, the first book I had read by Tilly Tennant, I was eager to start this one when it came available for review. I was buzzing to get an ARC of it.
And what better time to read a Christmas book than August sat in the sun. I must admit I was kind of wanting to be there, walking in the snow, tucking into my Christmas dinner, then I had another sip of my drink applied some more sun screen and carried on reading.
What another bloody brilliant read it was too.
I loved being back with the characters, I enjoyed the fun, the banter, the gossip, the arguments. Oh I just enjoyed everything about it.
Millie and Dylan seem to be in the thick of it all, trying to run their bakery and looking after baby Oscar, but luckily for them they have Millie's cousin Darcie staying with them and she's proving to be a great help.
We have the local gossip and busybody Ruth, and I just think she's great. I chuckle each time she turns up somewhere she is not wanted. I can chuckle because she's not in my life, I have to be honest if she was a local to me I think we'd have really fallen out by now. lol.
The lovely Spencer and his wife to be Tori are back in Honeybourne and as it's Christmas what a perfect time for both of their parents to meet. Oh god I felt for both these characters, you shouldn't be embarrassed by your parents at all but I think you could make exceptions here. lol
I loved some of the other character who it was nice hearing about again, Jasmine and Rich are just wonderful, I loved Jasmine again in this book and i'm hoping book 3 (if there is going to be on) features Jasmine some more, I would love to know the outcome of her little disagreement with Rich and who actually gets their own way.
Again it was brilliant being back with such colourful and wonderful characters.
I really will be reading more from this author pretty soon.

Thank you to Netgalley, The author and the Publishers for an ARC of this book.

Loved it...............

Review: Private Investigations

Private Investigations Private Investigations by Quintin Jardine
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow, It still amazes me how far this series has come. I have been reading this series now over many years, and I never tire of it. I would love to see Bob Skinner as a detective series on TV.
I have to say though with this book, it was like having a reunion with old friends. There are an awful lot of characters that have been in these books over the years, and this book seems to give you a reminder or a history lesson of some of the more memorable characters, it also helps refresh your mind as you do forget certain people as the books progress. But it was just wonderful to be back with old friends. I have loved and enjoyed each and everyone of these books, and this one is certainly no exception.
I would say if you have not read any of the Bob Skinner series then it really is worth doing so in order. It really would add to the enjoyment of the reading, and following Bob through his personal life as well as his police Career.

In this instalment, Bob is now a Private Investigator, no longer a police office. But come on this is Bab Skinner. You think not being a copper is going to hinder him in any way at all. After all he has a whole heap of friends on the police force, Doesn't he?
His first PI case is to help an old acquaintance whose Luxury Boat has gone missing. I don't mean a little pedal boat, its a 5million pound Yacht.
How the hell can one of those go missing, well that's up to Bob to figure out, and it soon becomes apparent that his colleagues on the police force have not really done a thorough job of looking for it.
And yes in true Bob style he is caught up in a police investigation after he has a bump in his car and the driver of the other car does a runner, It was only a little bump so what the hell made the other driver run for it, like his life depended on it.

I can't be giving to much away so I'm not going to say any more, but if like me you do enjoy a QJ book, then this one is certainly well worth reading.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Headline for an advance copy of Private Investigations. A book like all the others I really did enjoy.

Review: See How They Run

See How They Run See How They Run by Tom Bale
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I'll just start this by saying if that damn postman/woman knocks on your door with a parcel that isn't for you. DO NOT TAKE IT IN.

What a great story, this was just something that felt really different. A very interesting read.
Husband and wife against the clock, both trying to stay alive and not know who to trust.

Alice and Harry are wakened in the middle of the night only to realise that there are masked intruders in their bedroom. This it's self gave me the shivers. How horrible would that be. But when you realise their baby daughter is in her crib at the side of the bed, my blood ran cold.

Why are they here, it's not a robbery. Is it mistaken Identity? Just what to they want? Well it turns out they are looking for a man named Edward Renshaw, But do Alice and Harry know him, or do they have the wrong house.

As things start to come together and Alice and Harry in a quest to find out the truth and why these men broke into their home, end up separated in a search for answers. It soon becomes apparent that there really isn't anyone you can trust, but how the hell have they gotten caught up in this nightmare. And how the hell do they get out of it?

There were a few things through out this book that I just didn't see coming, Some great twists. A real good mystery to it.

This is the first book I have read by Tom Bale but I really am sure it will not be the last one.

Review: Blood Sister

Blood Sister Blood Sister by Dreda Say Mitchell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Firstly a super big thank you to the Author and Publishers for an ARC of this book.
In true Dreda style this book is a first class read.

As with all her other books, this is a first class read. I have never been disappointed when finishing one of Dreda's books.
This is the first book in a new series and it's a series I can see going from strength to strength if this first book is anything to go by.

I loved everything about this book from the cover to every single page in between. It really is a page turner.

In this book we are introduced to 'The Devils Estate' certainly not somewhere you would want to live.
Saying that the residents don't want to live there either and for some all they want to is meet someone and do well in life to allow them to get off the estate.

Bab's and her two girls, Jen and Tiff live on this estate. Tiff is a bit of a sod, and will go out of her way to upset people, where Jen is the total opposite, Jen want's off the estate and is trying to do her best at collage so she can do well and get out of the The Devil..
Tiff end's up running errands for one of the local gangsters, and you just know this will not end well for Tiff. She's in too deep before she realises she needs out.

As Jen and Tiff grow their rolls seem to change. It isn't long before their paths cross with the wonderful character that is Dee, the story takes a turn.

I loved the main characters in this book, and I certainly loved Dee she's just a time bomb waiting to go off. But she's a woman that knows what she wants and will do what it takes to get it.

I'm getting worried about giving to much away, as it certainly is a book well worth reading.
It has everything in it that you expect from a DSM book and more. And I think anyone out there who enjoyed any of Kimberley Chambers, Mandasue Heller, Casey Kelleher. all those sort of authors, then you really must pick this one up and give it a read, you will not be disappointed.

It seems like forever ago since I read my first DSM book. Geezer Girls, back in 2009. And as I read so many books I'm finding I can go back to books and still enjoy them so I have just bought the 3 books again, to read again and enjoy all over again.

Review: We'll Always Have Paris

We'll Always Have Paris We'll Always Have Paris by Sue Watson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I wasn't sure what to expect when I first started reading this. But after just finally getting around to reading Bella's Christmas Bake off and loving it, I ended up giving my to read pile a bit of a shake up and starting this one.
The book opens with Rosie Draper and her husband Mike who is terminally ill. He passes away not long after his diagnosis and Rosie is left heartbroken. It was a very sad and moving opening to the book.
I must confess though it was so nice to read a book that wasn't focused on some young girl/lady. Rosie is a slightly more mature lady in her 60's, and I loved how the book was based around her and her life, I like the little bits that told of pasts gone, and it gave a great warmth to the story.
Rosie has an unexpected encounter with a man from her past, forty plus years after she last saw him. And although its very nice to see him again, Rosie has so many mixed emotions about Peter. After all he was her first love.
But can a friendship be re built after so much time has gone by. Or will their lives be so much different now that there is no room for past events. I loved Rosie's family her overprotective daughters and her super cool granddaughter, they were just what the book needed to help the humour along. But I'm guessing there are an awful lot of families out there who are just like Rosie's family. And after the death of her husband and the girls father, It's got to be so difficult introducing a new friend to the family. I know because when my mother met My step dad, I was only 8 and I hated him and the fact that he was with MY MUM. Luckily we soon became inseparable and I loved him with all my heart.

A brilliantly written book, Sue certainly seems to be able to write a damn good book and although this one is a little different from her other books there is still some of that humour that we've grown to love with Sue's books. And I always seem to end up somewhere in sue's books not only laughing but crying too. So when you start this book you need to make sure you have a good few hours where you have nothing to do, a big comfy chair, several bars of chocolate or cake, a cuppa and a box of tissues.

I can't wait for more books by this amazing author. Another Bloody brilliant book.
Thank you to the publishers, Author and Netgalley for a review copy of this book.

Review: Bella's Christmas Bake Off

Bella's Christmas Bake Off Bella's Christmas Bake Off by Sue Watson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What can I say about this. Well first off if you haven't read any of Sue Watson's books, you really do need to.
I have loved everyone I have read, and Bella's Christmas Bake Off is no exception. It's fun, heart-warming, enjoyable and bloody funny.
I will also add that as well as laughing out loud, I did end up with a warm fuzzy feeling and slightly watery eyes towards the end.
It felt a bit like that huge mug on the TV commercial that wraps its arms around you, and gives you a warm feel good feeling.
I just can't believe it's taken me until now to read it, but it got lost in kindle world and has just turned up again, So glad I decided to read it. After feeling a little down and fed up this really give me the pick me up I needed.
The characters in this book were just first class, and I have to admit I liked each and every one of them. Even Bella who to start off with I though was a little up her own arse, but she grew on me.
Amy I just adored from the start, trying to build a new life after a marriage break up, I really felt for her and was rooting for her and praying for happiness for her. I loved how things just seemed to go against her, but in the humorous way it was written, I really did laugh most the way through this book.
Sue really does seem to write books that as well as covering every day topics and the mishaps of everyday folks, she manages to write them with an air of fun and her humour in the characters shines through in this book.
Bloody loved it....

Thanks to Netgalley and The Publishers for an ARC of this book. I'm just gutted it's taken me this long to get around to reading it.

Review: The Little Village Bakery

The Little Village Bakery The Little Village Bakery by Tilly Tennant
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What a brilliant read. I thoroughly enjoyed this book from start to finish. I'm a huge fan of crime books, and every so often I like to take myself off somewhere a little different and a little less gruesome. And this was the perfect book to do that with.

I loved every bit of this book. The characters were just perfect, Once started I read this in just over a day. A real feel good book.

Millie has moved to Honeybourne to get away from things that have happened in her past. The only problem is when things just seem to be going as they should for her, and she's slowly on track setting up her new business, a run down bakery. She is making friends and finding romance. An unexpected visitor from her past turns up to destroy all that she has.
The only way Millie is going to get anywhere is open up and be honest to the people she has become friends with. But is it to late for that.

I can't believe when looking at Tilly's other books on Amazon that this is the first one I have read. But on the plus side, I have found myself a new author, and can now read all her other books.
Even better today I have just learnt that there is to be a second book out in September. Christmas at the Little Village Bakery: A feel good festive romance to curl up by the fire with (Honeybourne Book 2).
And I am now so looking forward to reading that. I really can't wait. I look forward to reading many more books from this author.

A huge thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for allowing me the chance to read and review this book.

Grave Intention Grave Intention by M.A. Comley

Grave Intention. Book 2
In this book we return to see Ellen Brazil and her working partner Brian Lynx trying to solve another Missing person/Disappearance.
Ellen is hired to find ex-banker Charles Dugan, who disappeared after his mansion burned to the ground......
Ellen is on a journey throughout the book, that not only does she need to find the missing person, i think they needs to find herself to.
We see more of Ellen's private life and the turns it takes in this book just mean that any future books are going to be just as good...
The book also show's how you can have it all, and the dangers of gambling can take it all away from you.
It is well paced, not to many characters which helped it become a very easy to follow to read. If i had had the time this book would have been done in one sitting,.
The twists in the story keep you wanting to carry on and find out what happens..
I am eagerly awaiting book 3....

Review: Shadow Over the Fens

Shadow Over the Fens Shadow Over the Fens by Joy Ellis
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

My thoughts.
5/5

I received a copy of Shadow over the Fens from the publisher and netgalley.com in exchange for an honest review. And I would like to say a big thank you for that.

I started reading this, Book2 in the DI Nikki Galena series as soon as I finished book 1. I really did enjoy book 1, and was hoping and praying that book 2 would be just as good.
I got to know the main characters DI Nikki Galena and DS Joseph Easter in book 1, and I really will say It would help greatly if you read the first book, Crime on the Fens first, as it will really help with the character background and give you an idea of what has happened in both their pasts. Although some of their past is highlighted in this book, I still feel you would get a better feel of it.

I think it's safe to say in this book Joseph's past seems to have come back to haunt him. In the shape of Billy Sweet, who is someone Joseph hoped he would never see again.

In the Fens this time, Nikki's neighbour has committed suicide, but Nikki along with his sister are convinced it was not a suicide even though there were witnesses that saw it.
Nikki has to watch that she isn't showing that she is too close to the investigation or she will be taken off it. But she's hell bent on proving that her instincts are right.

I have to say I gave book one 5/5 because I really did enjoy it, but I can honestly say this one was even better. There just doesn't seem time to catch your breath through this book, there is just something happening all the way through it. And I'm hoping this series continues in this way and can't wait to here more of this odd duo. They just seem to work so well together.
And as I have been writing this review, I have just got book 3, which I am going to start as soon as I finish my current read. I love finding a new series where I can read the books back to back and really enjoy them.

Review: Crime on the Fens

Crime on the Fens Crime on the Fens by Joy Ellis
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Right from the beginning of this book I enjoyed it. It's one of those books that from the opening chapter you know you are going to enjoy. And I had to read at every opportunity.
'Joy Ellis is a new author to me, but someone I will certainly be looking out for in the future. If this book is anything to go by then I really can't wait for the next one. Which is good because it's on my kindle waiting for me, and it's going to be my very next read.

'The Characters are believable and likeable.
DI Nikki Galena, not the easiest person to get along with, a detective that no one seems to want to work with, and one that goes out of her way to catch drug dealers. She lives alone and has a secret that none of her fellow work colleagues know about. And if she is not careful, she wont have a job for much longer.
'She certainly is in a low part of her life. You start off not liking her very much, but I soon grew to really like her.

DS Joseph Easter is a character I really liked. he also has history and a story he doesn't want to share, but has actually asked to work with her. That is a first, someone wanting to work with her.
it's an unusual set up, but as the story goes on one that works very well. I absolutely loved this book, I found it a first class brilliant read.

'i'm doing my best not to give to much away, but I want to get across how much I enjoyed this book, and now i'm off to start book two. Happy days.

Review: The Secret of Orchard Cottage

The Secret of Orchard Cottage The Secret of Orchard Cottage by Alexandra Brown
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Whooooooo hoooooooo Loved, Loved being back in Tindledale. This place seems so real when reading this book and others featuring Tindledale, That you could almost be sat on a bench in the Village while reading the book. You are just taken away to this fictional world all the way through the book. It's just amazing. What more can I say.

An easy 5/5 for me. Enjoyed everything about it. Just in case I haven't made it obvious can I just say, I really enjoyed this book. lol.

After receiving a birthday card from her elderly Aunt Edith, April Wilson decides it's time to go and visit her for a few days. April is still trying to come to terms with her husbands death and is still very much going through the grieving process.
But visiting Tindledale fore any reason would warrant more than a couple days, and April ends up staying on a little longer than expected.
I thought the way Alex allowed April to go through her grieving process was wonderfully done. And the subject covered brilliantly. Some tough topics through this book, but so cleverly written and put together.

I loved the characters in this book, the Familiar ones from previous books and the new ones we are introduced to in this book. I especially loved Aunt Edith, and believe that if everyone who had ever lost someone, needs an Aunt like Edith and a Cottage like Orchard Cottage to go and get their thoughts together.

As usual I am worried of giving to much of the storyline away. But I need to let the world know this is a must read. I read mainly Crime fiction, but every now and then I like a change, and I've got that way now that I Can't wait for Alex to bring another book out for me to read, although i'm lucky in the sense I still have a few of her other books to catch up on.

And I'm not afraid to say I had tears in my eye's towards the end of this book.

A Truly First Class Read.

A super big thank you to the publishers, Author and Netgalley for a review copy of this book.

Review: My Girl

My Girl My Girl by Jack Jordan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Firstly, a massive thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for allowing me a review copy of this book.

I need to be careful here, that I'm not giving to much away. It's only a 166 page book, so it is a very quick read, but don't let that put you off because believe me it doesn't stop it being a bloody good read.

This though is one of those stories that grabs your attention, and you know you have to keep going, and like me you'll probably do this in one sitting.

Paige Dawson is the mother of a murdered child, and if that wasn't enough, her husband killed himself. So its understandable that her life isn't very good at the moment, well that might be an understatement. I'd actually say she's pretty well screwed up. She's a mess, Constantly drunk and addicted to prescription pills, it doesn't seem that life can get any lower.
Her mother in law has tried to help, to be honest she's now at a stage of disgust, what more can she do to help her daughter in law.
You really do find yourself feeling sorry for Paige and really rooting for her to get her act together. I felt that strongly towards this character that you'd have thought it was someone I actually know. The Author has done an amazing job with this book.
This is the first book I have read by Jack Jordan, but I'm guessing it certainly won't be the last one.
This is a really interesting read and well worth giving it a go.

Review: The Secret Diary of Hendrik Groen, 83 ¼ Years Old

The Secret Diary of Hendrik Groen, 83 ¼ Years Old The Secret Diary of Hendrik Groen, 83 ¼ Years Old by Hendrik Groen
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This is one of those books when you want something a little different, then this is it. It is a good fun read, some great lol moments.
Anyone who read and enjoyed The Secret life Of Frank Derrick would enjoy this.
Hendrik lives in a Care home, but he certainly doesn't sit looking out the window all day or watching TV. No he seems to like trouble and mischief. And he has started to record everything daily in his diary.
As well as the fun side, it also shows how important friendship can be. and having a support group of people you can get along with, and share life.

This book also covers some of the health issues that fold in the home suffer with.

It is an interesting and different read.

Review: Mortal Justice: A Justice series short novella

Mortal Justice: A Justice series short novella Mortal Justice: A Justice series short novella by M.A. Comley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Well it's no secret. The Justice series is one of my all time favourite series of books. I just love Lorne, she's ace. lol.
It was a little weird reading this one, as it's set right back in the begininning, so we see characters that are no longer featured in the later books.
I don't mean weird in an odd way, I just had to keep reminding myself of a few things that had happened (I'm not spoiling it for you)
This is a great Easy and quick read, you'll fly through it in no time.
A young lady witnesses a horrible attack on a man, and is worried and confused as to what she should do. Report it, ignore it. Her friend helps her decide what to do, but is she making the right decision.
And does she have real reason to be as scared as she is.
As I said this is only a short story but don't for one minute think that it isn't full of the usual thrills that come with any of the other Justice books.
Well worth reading.
Thanks Mel for an ARC of this book. Thrilled with it.

Review: Snatched From Home: What Would You Do To Save Your Children?

Snatched From Home: What Would You Do To Save Your Children? Snatched From Home: What Would You Do To Save Your Children? by Graham Smith
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

What a great read. OK I have to say I was forced at gun point by my buddy Noelle over at #CrimebookJunkie to read this book. Well maybe she just recommended it and I trust her recommendations that much I had to go and buy it and read it right away. Well I'm glad I did. And guess what? My Mum was glad I did too as she really enjoyed it also.

Nicholas Foulkes is in Debt from Gambling. Only problem is, his wife Victoria knows nothing about it until masked men raid their home and Kidnap her 2 children. Every parents worst nightmare. But somehow, some way they have got to find 95 Grand to get them back. How the Hell are they supposed to do that. Beg, steel and borrow is the only way. Or is it? It seems like turning to crime might just get them the rest of the money they need.

I really couldn't decide if I liked DI Harry Evans to start with. At one point he really got on my nerves, but you soon realise it's just who he is, and all he wants is to get the job done, and get results. I did start to grow to like him.
working along side him is DI John Campbell, who is set to be Harry Evans replacement when he takes retirement. I Liked John a little more to start with than I did Evans, although at times he seemed a little to goody goody. Once you start getting through the book, you learn a little more of these two characters, and I did begin to like both of them.

This i'm told is Graham's Debut Novel. Well if that is the case it is a great debut, well written, brilliantly paced and once I got around 30% in I did not want to put my kindle down, I needed to try and keep going.
Certainly an author I will be watching out for in the future.
