Review: Afraid

Afraid
Afraid by Mandasue Heller

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

h wowzers... not sure if it is a real word but its kind of, the toned down version of what I actually said when I opened my parcel and found this book inside.. Oh god was I excited.
So a big THANK YOU to Publisher: Hodder & Stoughton for sending me a review copy.

This book, is based around 14 yr old skye. who's life has just turned upside down, Not that it was a perfect family life to start with, but after yet another argument between Mum and Dad, dad is stabbed, and Skye ends up being placed into the care of Social Services. This is where Skyes life completly changes.

To get away from life in the care home, and what Skye belives is a living hell, Skye turns to her online friend Jade who offers her somewhere to stay, after chatting with Jade online Skye know's they have a similar life, and can relate to what each other is going through. Jade is also from an unhappy family filled with arguments and fights, Skye really feels like she has found a friend in Jade. Unfortunatly for Skye, Jade is not Jade, and she is not even a teenager or female like Skye thought. And this is really where Skye's hell begins. This all pretty much happens in the first few chapters, so I dont feel i'm giving to much away, However I don't want to go into any more detail as to what happens etc for fear of spoiling the story for anyone.

The book really kicks off on a high, and continues all the way through, keeping you wanting more.

Bullying, peodophile, on line grooming. this book covers a whole range of pretty much what is in the news nowadays. It's sad when you think you just are not suprised at some of the things that happen when children are put into care.

My all time fav Mandasue Heller book has always been THE FRONT. and while this is just as good, The Front still remains my fav....

Keep going Mandasue, I'm awaiting your next book now,..

A great start to the new reading year. published 1st January 2015.

Review: Bad Blood

Bad Blood
Bad Blood by Casey Kelleher

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

WOW
Wow and wow again... Another book to go into my top ten Favorites of 2014.

I have to say I was absolutly Buzzing when I recieved an early release copy of this book. I couldn't wait to start it.
I have Recently read (Listened to) Caseys Rise and fall and Heartless on Audible. And listening to them was just as good if not better as reading them.
This author really knows how to write a bloody good book.

From the very beginning of this book I was gripped.
Bad blood is based around Harry Woods. A well know face and ex boxer, his family and his main man Raymond, He has 2 Daughters and 2 son's and I think everyone of his kid's are different in their own way. Some likeable and some not so. And I always find if i start really disliking or liking one of the characters then it just goes to show how good the author has done dragging you into their lives.

Harry's children are his life, we have one at boarding school, one totally out of control, one who wants back into the family after walking away from them, and one who wants out of the family to go legit. What a family combination that is.
I'm not going into the story line as I don't think I could do it without giving to much away and I wouldn't want to spoil it for anyone.

This book was so well written its frightening where some of these idea's must come from. And Casey is well up there with other authors in this genre. The book just come together so bloody well. I was left speachless at the end of this book.. This really is a must read.

Review: For Better For Worse

For Better For Worse
For Better For Worse by Pam Weaver

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I don’t normally read books in this genre, So for me this was not just a step but a giant leap out of my comfort zone.
I can safely say I will be reading more books like this, and look forward to reading more from this author.

Set in the Worthing area in the 1940's this really struck home how times have changed. Especially when someone had to run to the phone box to phone the police. We take so much for granted today.

3 Married ladies are about to find out just how much they have in common, and how kindness can bring them together. How to overcome hardship and carry on with life.

A gripping read, full of surprises and I wanted to just sit reading it until I finished.

Review: The Informant

The Informant
The Informant by Susan Wilkins

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Another author to watch out for. If this first book is anything to go by.

Firstly I want to say a huge thank you to the publishers for a review copy of this book.

This was certainly my sort of book. I enjoyed it right from the beginning. And can not wait to see what Susan Wilkins does next. I believe there is going to be a sequel to this book, and by god I can not wait.

A fantastic read. And I believe fans of authors Like Martina Cole, Casey Kelleher, Helen black, Jessie Keane and on and on (to name just a few) would really enjoy this book. As a very keen reader, I love books in this Genre, and it still amazes me when we get a new author who can deliver the story as good as, if not better than some of the leading authors in this category.

#police #lawyer’s #gangster’s #prison #drugs #murder. What more can you ask for in a book. Once I started this I really didn’t want to put it down, and I found the more I read, the more I wanted to carry on reading. And although it was a fantastic read and I really needed to get to the end, once I was near the end, I wanted to put the book down so that I didn’t finish it. And OH MY GOD What an ending.

We are introduced to the wonderful (ok Not so wonderful) Phelps family.

Joey the up and coming wanna be gangster, has taken over the family firm. After Dad is no longer in a position to run it. Joey seems to be a bit of a loose cannon, and you can’t help liking him and hating him at the same time. Along with his side kick Ash, Joey seems to just be able to find trouble, and being so badly wanted by the police you would think he would try staying out of it. (Although that would have been boring lol)

His sister Karen is just released from Prison after serving 6 years of her 12 year sentence. Karen wants nothing to do with the family business, and is determined to continue her ART studies that she started whilst in prison; she wants to enrol into collage and be left to get on with things. But being part of the Phelps family this might not be the plan that Big brother has for her. Kaz was really likeable throughout the book. At times she seemed a very confused young lady, not knowing what she wanted or how to go about it. Her head was very mixed up at times, but I think that is understandable. Maybe getting a little to close to her Lawyer. And not coping to well with being followed by a not so undercover, undercover cop. But the police want this family off the streets, and it seems they will stop at nothing to get what they want.

Karen’s younger sister has not done to well for herself whilst Karen has been in Prison, and Karen is not happy that Joey hasn’t taken care of her.

When Cousin Sean is also released from Prison, he thinks its only right that he takes over as the head of the family business. But is Joey about to stand back and let him, or has Joey got used to being the main man and doesn’t want Sean by his side. One thing is for sure. Things are going to get messy. Who can survive and come out the other end. Well you need to read it and find out.

A must read..... 5/5

This book will certainly be in *one of my best books read this year* group. Come on Susan you now have a fan club eagerly awaiting your next book, and we are praying you can deliver something just as good if not better.

Review: Rise and fall

Rise and fall
Rise and fall by Casey Kelleher

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

After reading this book a few years ago and loving it. I was thrilled when I got the chance to listen to it on Audio.
Not being sure what to expect, I took my phone and headphones, on a walk, then took it to work, then It ended up going everywhere with me.
It was funny as although I had read the book, with it being a few years ago, I had forgotten a lot of what happened, and found listening to this, interesting and exciting.
Many kindle books have the text to speach enabled, and if you have ever listened to it, you will know it sounds very robotic and hard to follow.
This is not the case witht he audio version, it was like having someone with a great soothing voice follow me around reading to me. Great for when you want to read, but haven't got the chance to sit down. I'm now listening to this for the 2nd time while i get stuck into my housework.
The audio book is brilliant and I would love to listen to more books in future

Review: Gypsy Hunted

Gypsy Hunted
Gypsy Hunted by Andrea Drew

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Enjoyable and interesting. It does make you want to carry on reading, just to see what is going to happen.

It is quite a well written book. With there always seeming to be something happening, something going on.

Gypsy has psychic powers of some sort, and after an accidemt that leaves her unable to talk, uses her niece Renee who has the same ability as Gypsy, as her communicator.

Connor is the police officer in charge of finding out what happened on the night of the accident Gypsy was involved in, and luckily had met her previousl, so understands to some degree her *powers*.

An easy enjoyable read, with not to many Characters but enough going on to keep you interested.

Review: Girls Night Out

Girls Night Out
Girls Night Out by Kate Flora

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Girls night out.

4/5

A Great story of revenge.

I think it is really difficult to imagine what you would do in a situation similar to this. I think that unless you have actually been the victim of a crime, it is really difficult to imagine it at all.

Although maybe most people would not do what the girls in this book have done, I can truly believe that most victims of assault could possible dream of doing this to there abuser.

I think the story covered the revenge very well, and enjoyed it, A quick easy read, that kept my interest right through it.

A couple of *hold your breath moments* made the book all the better.

Review: Fear No Evil

Fear No Evil
Fear No Evil by Debbie Johnson

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Fear No Evil

a book that mixes paranormal and crime fiction together and does it really well. It was also quite an easy read, so didn’t take long to get into, and wanted to carry on reading just to see what happened.

It also has its fair share of humour and one liners.

The story is set in Liverpool with Private investigator called Jayne McCartney (Not related to Sir Paul)

Jayne takes on a case of a young girl who has apparently committed suicide jumping from a flat window. She enlists the help of a rather sexy and hunky former priest Dan Lennon. And together they work at trying to figure out if it was suicide or something more sinister.

I was a little slow with realising the names. Lennon and McCartney. But chuckled once it clicked. Lol.

Fear No Evil is a really good enjoyable read.

Review: Bad Bridesmaid

Bad Bridesmaid
Bad Bridesmaid by Portia Macintosh

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Bad Bridesmaid

Absolutely hilarious.

This is the first book I have read from this author. And it’s only recently I have started to read a few more chic lit books than I normally would. And so far I have been very lucky as each one I have read I have really enjoyed.

This book just seemed FUN. I laughed out loud most of the way through it.

Formally Mia Harrison now Mia Valentina is hot shot movie writer in LA living in her Lad Pad and doing pretty much as she pleases. She returns to the UK to be the chief bridesmaid at her sister's wedding. I think getting on the plane heading home was Mia’s biggest mistake I think she just brought with her a bad luck cloud, because if it could go wrong it would go wrong, and most the time it went wrong is spectacular style. She is not very well liked by her family and certainly seems like the black sheep of the family. Many times through the book I just kept thinking. Mia get back on that plane and go home before anything else can go wrong. Just as you think one incident is over she clangs right into the next one.

Belle is Mia’s sister, and I had mixed feeling for her. Sometimes I wanted to slap her, and others I wanted to feel sorry for her. Belle used to Bully Mia, and to say they are not really close sisters may be a bit of an understatement. There was times when I thought that Belle was just a spoilt brat. But as the story went on I grew to like her.

There is the normal chic lit hunks a plenty in this book, and Mia seems to like the try before you buy style. She wants’ casual sex, not serious relationships. She wants fun not commitment. But most of all I think she just wants to be liked, by her family or at least accepted.

A really good light hearted fun read. I will definitely look into reading more books from this author, I really did enjoy it. If you are feeling a little down or fed up, then read this, it really does have the feel good factor and anyone feels better after a good laugh, and this book has plenty of laughs.

Review: Vendetta

Vendetta
Vendetta by Dreda Say Mitchell

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Well worth the wait.
OMG How excited was I to receive an early copy of this book. I couldn't wait to get stuck in. It seemed like foreverago since I read Dreada Say Mitchell books.

Although this book is different from her other books, right from the first page I loved this book. It didn't take me long to get sucked right into the story.

We start off this book with a Murder. What do you do if you wake up in a sleezy hotel room, and the woman you went there with is now dead in the bathroom, brutally murdered, you have a gun shot wound to your head, and you have no bloody idea what the hell happened.
Well you go searching for answers, answers that might just get you into trouble, or at best just killed. No big deal, as long as you get the truth.

Well that is exactly what happened to Mac. I really liked him, although he was at times hard to figure out, and a little crazy. Well more than a little, he was kind of crazier than a big bag of crazy things. But likable. I found myself many times talking to the characters in the book, now i'm not sure if that is a good or bad thing. lol. But to me it means that the author has managed to get you sucked in and involved in what is going on. I sooo needed to know Who-What-Why.? all the way through I suspected everyone of not being what they say they are, I become very suspicious of everyone, and didn't know who could and couldn't be trusted.
An amazing book, well worth reading. This book is certainly going to be in my top 10 read of 2014. Just Brilliant.

I wanted to sit and read this in one sitting, but I found I was actually really good (bloody hard to do) but I took my time and just read a few chapters at a time.
I really liked the short chapters in this book, as it's easy to *read just one more chapter*.

'Breathless from the first word, thrilling to the last.' Lee Child
'Wonderful vivid writing and a truly original voice.' Peter James

Two murders. Two different crime scenes. One killer?

Mac wakes in an smashed-up hotel room with no recollection of what has happened. With his lover's corpse in the bathroom and the evidence suggesting that he killed her, Mac is on a mission to uncover the truth and find the real killer.

But he's in a race against time with less than a day to unravel the mystery. Still reeling from a personal tragedy Mac isn't afraid of pain. Hot on his heels is tenacious Detective Inspector Rio Wray. Double-crossed and in the line of fire, Mac has to swim through a sea of lies to get to the truth.

But only Mac knows he's been living a double life. Can he be sure he doesn't have the blood of a dead woman on his hands?

Review: Blind Justice: A Lorne Simpkins Justice novella (prequel to Cruel Justice)

Blind Justice: A Lorne Simpkins Justice novella (prequel to Cruel Justice)
Blind Justice: A Lorne Simpkins Justice novella (prequel to Cruel Justice) by M A Comley

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a 21.000 words novella that is the prequel to Cruel Justice.

DI Lorne Simpkins and DS Pete Childs are called to investigate the death of Jenny Bartlett, who's decomposing body is found in a wooded area. When Lorne informs Jenny's parents of her death they are understandably shocked but also confused by the news as they were under the impression their daughter was out of the country, working as a volunteer in Africa.
Delving deep into Jenny's personal life leads Lorne to Jenny's former boyfriend, Simon Killon, after Lorne discovers they had a secret liaison in a restaurant shortly before her death. But is he guilty of Jenny's murder?
After learning what traumas Simon himself has encountered lately, Lorne has her doubts that he's the culprit. However she finds it hard to disprove the evidence pointing in his direction.

The Justice series in order are:

Cruel Justice #1 in Police Procedurals 2012 and Women Sleuths.

Impeding Justice #1 in Police Procedurals

Final justice #1 Action and Adventure

Foul Justice #1 Hard-Boiled Mysteries

Guaranteed Justice #1 Women Sleuths

Ultimate Justice - #2 Women Sleuths

Virtual Justice - #1 Hard Boiled/#2 Psychological Thrillers

Hostile Justice - #1 Police Procedural

Tortured Justice - New release.

I have read and loved every one of the Justice books. This short story takes us right back to the start of the series. And I have to say it felt a little odd to start with, but was great being reminded of Characters that you forget about as the series has progressed.
In this book Lorne Simpkins is working along side her Partner Pete Childs. A woman's body has turned up, and Lorne and Pete are on the case, trying to discover who has killed her and why. The evidence is building up, and seems to be pointing to an ex boyfriend. Can Lorne and Pete discover if it was him or not and get to the bottom of this Murder case.
I'm always worried with Novella's that reviewing it will give to much away, so I have kept it brief.
What I will say is for those of you that have enjoyed the Justice series, I think you will love this Novella.

Review: First to Fall

First to Fall
First to Fall by Carys Jones

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

First to fall. A really good read.
This book kicks off with Lawyer Aiden Connelly, his wife Isla and 2 yr old Meegan moving to the quite town of Avalon.
After the hustle and bustle of city life in Chicago, Aiden is trying to get work and family life back on an even track.

Aiden starts work at his new office Cope and May Solicitors. And it seems like his first case is just a plain straight forward murder. A domestic that has gone wrong.

But it soon becomes clear this is not the case, and Aiden is about to start upsetting the people of the town, who are all very much stuck in their ways, and don't want someone interfering with what has happened.

His wife isn't liking life in the town they have moved to, and is also not liking the fact that Aiden is slowly spending more and more time working.

The story flows along really well and does get you hooked, and wanting to know what the outcome is going to be.
All in all a really enjoyable read.
I read this book in 2 sittings, are really did enjoy it.

Review: Race To Death

Race To Death
Race To Death by Leigh Russell

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the 2nd book featuring DI Ian Peterson. Who along with his wife Bev has moved to York for his posting as the newly promoted DI.

The book starts off with Ian being out and about in York with his delightful wife (nothing delightful about the miserable cow). When he gets a call to attend the scene of what it seems to be someone jumping from a balcony at York race course. It soon becomes apparent that this is not just a simple suicide and Ian is thrown into his first case in his new roll.
Along with all Leighs other books, I did enjoy this, and this is a series i will be watching out for and following. Leighs books are realistic and enjoyable.

An interesting read that will keep your attention throughout.

Review: Snow Angels, Secrets and Christmas Cake

Snow Angels, Secrets and Christmas Cake
Snow Angels, Secrets and Christmas Cake by Sue Watson

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A great fun read, with enough seriousness to make you think. and truly realize just what is important in life.
A Christmas cracker of a read.

I really enjoyed the last book I read by Sue Watson, so when I saw this I knew I had to give it a go. And I did really enjoy it, The humor in this book is just priceless. I really found myself chuckling at parts. Sue Watson really does know how to drag the reader into the book.

In this book we have 2 very different sisters, Tamsin and Sam, both characters I loved instantly. The girls are thrown together when Tamsin, in the midst of organizing another fantastic Christmas, get's a visit from the Baliffes. Not the Christmas guest you want. Especially when they have come to tell you they are repossessing your home.

Sam, Tamsin's sister is there to support her through her ordeal, and although going through some issues of her own, She is there to offer her love and support although at time's she'd rather not have her with her, the sisters are forced to get through things together.

Tamsin goes from miss money bags, to miss Black bag's and is forced to stay in her sisters flat over the top of her sisters bakery shop, where the women will face even more problems, the good thing about this book is it show's with love, family and some truly crazy friends, you really can tackle anything that life throws at you.

There are also a whole bunch of other brilliant characters in this book and I just think the way it is written and put together is just fantastic. A truly brilliant read.

Love, Lies and Lemon cakes by Sue Watson was one of those books earlier this year that helped me decide to read a few more Chic lit books, rather than just the usual crime books I normally read. And I tell you, I'm so glad I have given them a go.

Review: Dead to Me

Dead to Me
Dead to Me by Cath Staincliffe

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

After watching a loving the TV series, I was really looking forward to reading this book. And I was not disappointed. A really enjoyable read.
I found it even better as I live in the area where most of it was filmed, and having our quiet little town mentioned in the book was great. I really does help you build a picture in your mind. And having a clear image of the characters was great.
Such strong story line and very well written. I will be reading more books by this author without a doubt.

So, as well as being a Scott and Bailey fan, i'm now a Cath Staincliffe fan.

Scott and Bailey are female detectives in a Manchester Murder squad. The characters are so so different, but after a rocky start, work so so well together.
A teenage girl is found brutally murdered in her flat. Can Scott and Bailey find out why Lisa was killed or by whom.
A Brilliant Crime Thriller with twists and turns to keep you guessing.

Review: Lily Does L.A.

Lily Does L.A.
Lily Does L.A. by Nicola Doherty

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the second instalment in Nicola Doherty’s fabulous Girls on Tour series, I read the first one Poppy Does Paris, earlier in the year and really enjoyed it.

These books have been a great change for me away from the normal Crime fiction that I read. And I must say I have really enjoyed them.

Lily wants to be an actress, but so far has just not had that lucky break. Or any luck at all come to think of it.
She quits her job at a call centre, and is then asked to go to LA to help her cousin organise her wedding.
Great, the chance of a lifetime, what can possible go wrong? Even better she realised her cousins husband is in the film industry. But she is banned for asking him for any help with acting work.

Lily gets up to all sorts in LA. I really dont want to give to much away, with this only being a short story. What I will say is it is a fun and intersting read. A Brilliant adition to any trip you are going on, as you will get through it in no time.

Review: The Winter Foundlings

The Winter Foundlings
The Winter Foundlings by Kate Rhodes

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the first book I have read by this author. but it's safe to say it will not be the last.

I recieved a review copy of this book. So i must say a big thank you to the publishers for allowing me to read and review it.

The winter foundling is book 3 featuring Alice Quentin. As I hadn't realised it was book 3, I have not read book one or two yet, but would at some point go back and read them.

Dr Alice Quentin is a Forensic Psychologist who is normally based at Guys Hospital in London but she is on a six month secondment to Northwood high security hospital.
Young girls are going missing, turning up Murdered. It turns out that the killings are very identical to ones that happened years ago, and the original killer is in the High security hospital that Alice is now based at.
Alice is asked to interview Louis Kinsella, she's dubious as he very rarley speaks to anyone.
But maybe he can help figure out why this new killer is carrying on from the exact point where Kinsella stopped.
Can Alice help the police and stop this copycat killer before any more young girls go missing.

all in all this book was very well written. And the main character was likeable and realistic. I found myself suspecting everyone throughout the book, yet I still managed to get it so so wrong. A brilliant ending. If you enjoy a good crime thriller then i would say this is a must read for you. A really well written and bloody enjoyable read.

Review: Evil In Disguise

Evil In Disguise
Evil In Disguise by M.A. Comley

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow

Another 5 star read by this fantastic Author.

M A Comley has done it again.

In this book, Mel has taken a different direction, and this one is based on a true story. As always the books are very gripping, to the point you really do get drawn in and I found myself many times talking to the book, sometimes shouting, and at other times trying to tell the character what she should and shouldn't be doing .....

I really felt like I knew the Character, Jenny is in an abusive marriage, and this book covers the subject very well. Jenny has been abused for many years by her husband Bill, yet no one, not even her children know about it.

How will Jenny deal with things, when her children finally do find out. Will they actually believe her? after all he is their wonderful loving father. And for all these years they have had no idea about any of it. Jenny has done such a good job covering up her abuse is it possible to make people believe you when you do finally tell them.

When Jenny finally get's to meet her pen pal of many years, along with another person who has been writing to her, things in her life start to change, and are people taking advantage of such a nice person, or is she just gullible and in a position in her life that it is easy for others to take advantage of her. Can she come out of years of abuse a stronger happier person, or are things just going to spiral out of control.

A must read

I have read and loved most of the Private series. Also read and loved the other series by James Patterson.
But with this one I have really struggled. And I think the main reason is the Indian Names, i really struggled to get my head around who was who, and then what was happening. I spent so long trying to pronounce the names in my head i got frustrated with it..
That said the story its self was quite good, and I will certainly be reading the next installment..

Review: Before I Go To Sleep

Before I Go To Sleep
Before I Go To Sleep by S.J. Watson

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4/5
I was really unsure about this book before I started reading it as I had read so many mixed reviews.
The book is based around Christine, who loses her memory when she goes to sleep and has to start afresh every time she wakes up. She wakes up in a strange bed with a strange man every morning, or this is how her morning starts. He's not a strange man, its not a strange bed. It's her husband and she is at home. Thanks to an accident when she was 29, Christine goes to sleep every night and has her memory erased.
With this book I found myself trying to imagine what it would be like, waking up like that each morning. I'm really not sure my hubby would cope telling me the same things each morning, he's terrible if he has to repeat himself.
Lots of twists and turns....thought I'd sussed out what was happening but, no. Brilliant!
Great story line - believable characters - gobsmacked at finding out how it ends. Couldn't wait to get to the end.
And all in all it seemed like a very easy read

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy of this book. And as with all of Kerry's other books, I was really looking forward to reading it. As usual I was not disappointed.
Some series I find when they start getting 7/8 books in, you can start to get a little fed up of them, or going off certain characters. Not with these books, I have enjoyed each and everyone of them.

Kerry has written this the 8th book as book one of Series two, so If you have not read any of the previous books you could pick up from this point and start from here. (personally i would read them all from book one first).
I just love Jessica, there is something about her that is real, and her character is believable, with all she has been through over the years you just can't help liking and admiring her.
In this book Jessica is back to work after being off following a case that messed with her life slightly (I don't want to give to much away). And following her last case she has now been promoted to Detective Inspector. We follow a few very good story lines in this book, and one of them is based around the Stretford Slasher, a name that i couldn't help giggling at when I first read it. But is really nothing to laugh at,
As usual with Kerry this book keeps you on the edge all the way through, and has some fantastic twists in it. All in all *A Bloody good read*

Review: Tortured Justice

Tortured Justice
Tortured Justice by M.A. Comley

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Book 9 in the Justice series. Wow so much has happened and changed since book 1. This is one of those series that one day you know you just have to start all over again and re read them all.

In Tortured Justice - Lorne is back and still working for the met, she's now been back 12 month. And is a Detective Sergeant , along with her partner Detective Inspector Katy Foster they have a new case to solve, A man has been found dead outside a local hospital.
Before to long more bodies start to turn up, and we are soon thinking this is the same killer, and if it is Why. When reading the book, you know the who and why, but you need to know how Lorne and Katy are going to figure things out, can they piece things together and find out why these men are being murdered?

Along side working for the met, Lorne is still interfering in the day to day running of her dog rescue center which is now run by Lorne's Husband Tony, a former MI6 officer, and Lorne's daughter Charlie. We also see a return of Carol, her character I just can't help but like. I also felt like I really knew some of the new characters and could really put faces to their names. Amazing. (anyone who is friends with Mel on Facebook, or follows any of her groups, will know what i mean)
The story, like all other stories written by Mel Comley is just a fantastic enjoyable read. I can't believe how excited I get when I know the new book is out, and again, i am eagerly awaiting the next one... (No pressure, hey Mel)

Review: The Woman Who Stole My Life

The Woman Who Stole My Life
The Woman Who Stole My Life by Marian Keyes

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Unlike many other readers. I have not read many of Marian Keyes books, and without going checking my years old archive I could maybe say this is the first one. So with this book I wasn't comparing it to any other work.
I enjoyed the book, it was *different* i found it quite an easy enjoyable read, with the odd giggle and the odd gasp.
The book kept my attention to a certain degree, and overall it was an ok/enjoyable read.

Stella Sweeney is back in Dublin. After living the dream in New York for a year - touring her self-help book, appearing on talk shows all over the USA and living it up in her 10-room duplex on the Upper West Side - she's back to normality with a bang. And she's got writer's block.

Read as part of my #Netgalleymonth readathon

Review: Misbehaving in Miami

Misbehaving in Miami
Misbehaving in Miami by Aimee Duffy

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The girls are off again, in Misbehaving in Miami (Summer Flings, Book 2) on the next leg of the round the world trip. And Poor Miami has to learn to cope with them. Again as this is a short story, i'm a little bothered about giving away to much, but again-- just brilliant.
A Great fun read.
Misbehaving in Miami continues on from where Trouble in Tinseltown finished. So with the girls in Miami, we just know that all they can have is fun, nothing will go wrong will it? And what is more fun than a drinking game, how can that be bad. And it can't be difficult to do with an Irish chick on side can it............ get reading and find out just what happens.
I'm hoping to read all the books in this series, and as they are all just short stories, once finished, i will have to read them all again but back to back, just to get the real feel for them again.

Review: Trouble in Tinseltown

Trouble in Tinseltown
Trouble in Tinseltown by Aimee Duffy

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

3 Friends set off on a round the world trip, starting off in LA. The story is full of fun, I could have imagined going on holiday with these girls (many years ago).
Ciara, Elle and Gem are just great character. Each one with their own individual personalities. As this is only a short story I really don't want to go into the story for fear of giving to much away.
So what I will say is it is a great fun, easy read. Sit back and get stuck in. you will not regret it.

Review: The Stolen Girl

The Stolen Girl
The Stolen Girl by Renita D'Silva

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Not really sure what to say about this book, Other than WOW.
What an emotional story.
The journey one woman has to go through to save and protect her child.
How one person can be so selfish an manipulative to the point of controlling another persons life. But also amazing that when people finally realize and face up to the wrongs they have done, how others can find forgiveness.
Once you get into this book be prepared to sit up and read, because once you start you really wont want to put it down.
This is the first book i have read from this author, but i will be looking out for her other books now.

Review: Poppy Does Paris

Poppy Does Paris
Poppy Does Paris by Nicola Doherty

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book is part of a series, by Nicola Doherty. The girls on tour series.
As it's only a short story I thought it would be a great read for when i had my breaks in work. And i ended up looking a little bit of a plonker with a stupid grin on my face while reading it.
This is just a great fun, lighthearted short story.
An ideal read if you have an hour spare, sat in the garden on a warm afternoon.
Poppy has headed off to Paris -working- with her work colleague Charlie. and as she hasn't had any romance for quite some time, she's a little more than out of practice.
She decides seducing Charlie would be a good idea.
Obviously things don't always go to plan.
So treat yourself to a copy and see just what Poppy does in Paris.
I am looking forward to reading more from this author, and as I have recently won a copy of if I Could Turn Back Time in a blog giveaway, I think I will be moving it up in my to read pile.

Review: Until Death

Until Death
Until Death by Ali Knight

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Until Death 4/5

Ali Knight

Marriage is a prison for Kelly. Her controlling and manipulative husband Christos videos her in the house, has her followed and tracks her every move. She may be desperate to leave, but she's not stupid. If she runs, he'll make sure she never sees her children again. Christos has a mistress, Sylvie, keen to pander to his every whim and even keener to step into Kelly's shoes, should she ever vacate them. Kelly thinks it's stalemate for their twisted threesome, but one of Christos's container ships is about to dock in London with a secret cargo that will change all their lives forever. If Kelly is to escape, it will be in a way she never imagined, and people will" get hurt .

This is the first book I have read by Ali Knight. But I think it is safe to say it will not be the last.
A gripping tale of Marital abuse, and one womans struggle to come out the other end. With a fantastic story line.
I'm just annoyed with myself that it took me a while to get around to reading it, because once i had started it I really did enjoy it...

Kelly
The abused wife Kelly is stuck in a relationship that she just wants out of. But there just seems no way out. Her husband will not let her have a divorce, and has threatened to take the children away from her. She is left in their apartment daily some days with the doors locked, and is constantly recorded on one of the many video cameras her husband has installed in the house so he can see what she is up to constantly. She has 2 Children a Daughter she had before she met Christos and a son which they adopted together. Kelly also has a past which could get her into something she doesn't want to be involved with.

Christos
I hated Christos right from the beginning of this book, he's a man who likes to take charge and be in charge of everything. Including his wife. He has a mistress and dispite this still won't let his wife go. And as for Sylvie his mistress, well I She was just a first class cow.

Georgie
I liked the idea that one of the main characters was a female customs officer and not the normal police detective.
you find yourself asking a lot of questions throughout this book, and mainly how you would cope in this situation. What would you do? It is so easy to think that you would just walk away and not put up with it. But as this story shows things are not always that easy or that straight forward.

Make you grateful you are happily married..

I received this book from the publishers after speaking with Becca Mundy @BeccaCMundyand on Twitter. And I am really grateful for being given the chance to read and review it. It was definitely the sort of book I enjoy reading.
I have also added Ali Knights other books to my must buy them list. And look forward to reading them one day.

Review: From Notting Hill with Four Weddings . . . Actually

From Notting Hill with Four Weddings . . . Actually
From Notting Hill with Four Weddings . . . Actually by Ali McNamara

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

My thoughts. 5/5

Those of you that know me, will know I'm a huge Crime fiction fan. Occasionally I enjoy reading something a little different, a little more lighthearted. The last couple of months I have probably read more Chic Lit that I have ever read before, and I have really been enjoying the ones I have read.

And this one really does have the feel good factor.

This is the first book I have read from this Author, and I believe this is the 3rd book in this series. With it being the first one I have read, I don't feel like i missed out on anything, I was still able to follow the story, and understand what was going on. But now I have read it, I keep thinking I want to go back and read the first two now.

This book definitely get's a five star rating from me. The characters were great, I instantly liked Scarlet, She was fun. And I loved how no matter how bad she thought things were going to be, everything just seemed to turn out good for her.

And Oscar just seemed like a proper character, as I know my friend will not read this I can honestly say he just made me think of my daughters God father all the time. I must remember not to call him Oscar when I see him. A real Queen.

All the characters in the book, were really likable, except for one, but you'll feel the same when you read it. A few time's i thought, oh I know where this is going, but i got it so wrong.
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC.

Review: Behind Closed Doors

Behind Closed Doors
Behind Closed Doors by Kerry Wilkinson

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have read all the Jessica Daniels series, and then I realized I hadn't read this one yet, so I got stuck in, In time for the new one coming out in 3 weeks. And i must say after just reading this one, i'm so glad i do not have long to wait for the next one.

After hiding away from troubles and worries, Jessica finally faces the world again, by going under cover into a house that recruits... well what do they recruit? Jessica is forced to face some of her demons to pull off this undercover mission, and can she come out a stronger person or is she lost forever?

I don't want to go into the story line to much for fear of giving away to much, what I can say is these books by Kerry Wilkinson just keep getting better and better, i'm not sure how he does it, but he's got his work cut out to make the next one as good as this or better. I hope he can pull it off, as the series is just fantastic.

Review: Prime Deception

Prime Deception
Prime Deception by Carys Jones

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Laurie Thomas Cannot accept that her Identical twin sister Lorna committed suicide. And sets about trying to live the life Lorna lived to find out just what happened. And if it wasn't suicide then what was it?

A lot of answers need answering, and Laurie get's the help from Lorna's last employer The Deputy Prime Minister.

But Lorna was having an affair, And was she really about to sell her kiss and tell story to journalist John Quinn. Quinn thinks once Lorna has killed herself that the story has gone with her, but could he be wrong. Could the story now be twice as juicy, and could it change the rest of his career.

I'm finding it difficult to write this without giving up to much of the story, I will say that I did enjoy the book, I thought it was very well written with a great plot. However at times I could have quite happily slapped the The Deputy PM right round the choppers. I guess this story also shows how Grief affects different people in different ways.
But just how far will you go to get the answer's you need?

A very enjoyable and easy read.

Review: Summer at Castle Stone

Summer at Castle Stone
Summer at Castle Stone by Lynn Marie Hulsman

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

From the start this book really drew me in. Many times I sat and actually placed myself at the scene. I could see myself doing just what Sheila/Shayla was doing. I wiped my eyes when she was chopping onions, and felt nervous picking up a chicken. I really did like her character and all the way through I just kept wanting everything to go right for her.
Despite having a famous Father, she want's to do things of her own merit, and doesn't use his name. She really did seem like an individual person. Not a clone of everyone else.
I almost wanted to get on a plane and go straight to Ireland. I really did feel like i was there at times.
The characters are all believable I really did like them. A good mixture of people.
And as I tend to mainly read crime, this was a true refreshing change, A lighthearted fun read.

Highly recommend a great summer time read.

Ultimatum
Ultimatum by Simon Kernick

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I believe this book is a follow on from ‘Siege. But I have not read Siege. And didn't feel like i was missing out or unable to follow the story.

This book is certainly full of action. And as the chapters are reather short i found it very easy to keep on reading just a few more chapters.

A series of bombings rock London and threats to cause even greater devastation if England doesn't agree to withdraw from Afghanistan are made. Tina Boyd and Mike Bolt are working together, to try and find the culprits behind the bombings before another one goes off. It seems like a race against time, but can they stop anymore innocent people from losing their lives.

A fast paced, and interesting read.

Review: The Cold Cold Sea

The Cold Cold Sea
The Cold Cold Sea by Linda Huber

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the first book I have read by Linda Huber.

The Cold Cold Sea Starts off when a child who goes missing on a Cornish beach on a summer's day. Every parents nightmare. And right from this moment you are forced to keep on reading. I started this book late at night, and got over half way in my first sitting. I ended up reading it in two sittings. A very powerful story.
I'm actually glad I wasn't sat on a beach when reading this. This is a very chilling and disturbing story, very well written and put together. It really does keep you on the edge of your seat, wondering how things can progress, how this could actually happen.
I really felt a huge mixture of emotions whilst reading this. And will have to admit i cried more than once. Absolutely fantastic read. I really did enjoy it.

Maggie and Colin - I really did feel for these two. How on earth can any parent cope with what they went through.

Philip and Jennifer. I wanted to get hold of Jennifer and give her more that just a slap. I kept thinking all would be ok when Philip returned, but how wrong was I.

Katie teacher - I really believed that Kate was the key to solving everything, that one day at school she would just work it all out.

I don't want to say to much about the story, as I really don't want to spoil the book for anyone, but if you are going to read something this year, make it this.

Review: K9 Blue: Duck and Weave

K9 Blue: Duck and Weave
K9 Blue: Duck and Weave by Matt McCredie

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Working dogs have always fascinated me. I think its amazing how they train and then are able to do such a fantastic Job. So I was looking forward to reading this book as not only does it have the Detective we also have his faithful K9 friend along side him.
This is the first book I have read from this author, and I really did enjoy it.
Corruption in the police force. Drug dealers, kidnappers, bombers. This book has it all. And its down to Mike Winters and his trusted friend Falcon the dog, to catch these criminals.
There seem to be very few people who Mike trusts in his job, and as the story progresses you can see why. He's probably right to only have a handful of people he can trust. But luckily for him those he can trust are right there with him when needed.
I really did enjoy this book, and once I started it I really couldn't put it down. Looking forward to reading more from this author.

I received a review copy of this book, and away from the story it took me a while to get my head around a few things, there seemed to be no space between some of the paragraphs and a lot of the words had no spaces between them, so it took me a little longer to read as I had to keep getting me head around what was being said. That apart, the story was great. And i'm sure this has been put right for the Kindle edition.
In the second book of the action-packed K9 Blue series, Dog Squad Officer Mike Winters and his best mate Falcon are off the leash and ready for their wildest chase yet.
Crime-fighting police hero and part-time hell-raiser Mike Winters loves a good challenge. He and his loyal dog Falcon are an unstoppable duo when it comes to tracking down criminals and bringing them to justice, sometimes in very creative ways. But now there's one crook on their radar who keeps managing to stay a step ahead. When kidnappings and drug busts escalate to an international scale, it's clear this is no ordinary enemy.
Meanwhile as an ever expanding web of corruption clings to every corridor of the police department, Mike must think quick and act quicker to make sure he's not caught up in the mayhem.

Review: The 7th Woman

The 7th Woman
The 7th Woman by Frédérique Molay

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This is the first book i have read by this Author. Frédérique Molay.
This is the first book in the Paris Homicide series and has been translated into English.

We meet Nico Sirsky head of Chief of police fresh from a Dr's appointment for a suspected ulcer and instructions to rest.
Obviously in his line of work rest isn't an option for him and as he is called to the scene of a murder rest is not something he's going to get.
Marie Helene Jory - 36 assistant professor of history at the Sorbonne has been killed, murdered in her own home.
A particularly shocking scene awaits the officers.
It's soon clear after body number 2 shows up that the first killing was not a one off and we have a serial killer on the loose.
A message left at one for the scenes States 7 Days 7 Women. Can the team figure out who is behind the killing and why before any more bodies turn up.
It soon becomes clear that the killer is leaving personal messages for Nico, but why and can he figure out why before it becomes to personal.

Overall the book was an enjoyable read and I would probably read more in this series to see where things head.

Musings of a 20-Something Mom, and the Perils of being a Mommy Blogger
Musings of a 20-Something Mom, and the Perils of being a Mommy Blogger by Jenny Schoberl

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Musings of a 20-something mom and the perils of being a mommy blogger.
The beginning of this book, i just found it brilliantly funny. I normally read mainly crime fiction but fancied a bit of a change, and it certainly was different.
No nonsense and told as it is. a blogging mummy - well it just seems the norm nowadays if you have something to say then blog about it.
from the start I loved the straight forward "say it as it is" talk in this book, The humor was right up my street. I found myself stopping to re read pars of this to anyone who was a bout and would listen. I laughed out load and on more than one occasion thought oh i like that saying, i'll remember that one - then i'd find another lol.
As the book went on I found it a little repetitive in parts, but for something different to read it was an enjoyable easy read.

Book description

One of the largest trends among Moms today is to jump on the internet and immediately regurgitate all the magical, wonderful things their child has done in the past two hours to the first unsuspecting victim. Moms are everywhere; they've even taken over Blogging. Hundreds of blogs about how Fluffy got his first tooth, or Muffy said a new word. It's enough to make people want to vomit sugar.

I've been told that i'm not your typical mom, and my blog is not your typical blog; I've even been called the "Eminem of Mommy Blogging”, honest, blunt, and usually vulgar. This book is my experiences and stories as I ventured through the Mommy Blogging world, trying to make light of some disgusting situations, and it wasn't always pretty. I had to learn the hard way that blatant honesty may not always be the best policy... not if you want to keep your kids.

"Musings of a 20-something Mom" is a lesson on how NOT to blog, unless you want to piss off your friends, family, and get a pack of crazies chasing after you; and a reminder that when it comes to parenting, there's always going to be someone out there saying "you're doing it wrong!

Review: Avenged

Avenged
Avenged by Jacqui Rose

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I have read and loved all of Jacqui Roses books to date. I am a big fan of hers, she's a brilliant author.

But for some reason, this one didn't get me like all the others right from the start, I found myself wondering at one point weather to carry on or not, but I did and i'm glad i stuck with it, I am unsure why i felt this way, maybe it was coming out of one book right into another.
The start of the book goes back in time, where we get the build up to the story and how things happened and why.

We are introduced to the characters and I think it's safe to say from early on you do develop the love for some and the hate for others. I always think if you can feel anything towards the characters in a book then the author has done their job and got you involved.
We start off with the younger characters in Ireland. and soon move on to them in the present day in London. How their lives started and how they have changed is fantastically put together.
As I said i am glad i continued to read this, and things did improve and I found myself getting into the book and story, more so when it arrived back to present time.
Then I found i didn't want to put the book down. In true Jacqui Rose style the book really took off. And I began to get really involved, really engrossed. I ended up thoroughly enjoying it.

Misdiagnosed: One Woman's Tour Of--And Escape From--Healthcareland by Jody Berger

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really wasn't sure what to expect from this book. It turned out to be quite an emotional story which leaves you thinking and asking yourself questions.
Follow Jody in her journey through her quest to get answers and then come to terms with her diagnosis. Her Emotions as she tries to understand what it is that is wrong with her, what it is that her body is doing to her or telling her.
This story highlights just how an illness can be misdiagnosed, and how easy it is to take what the experts are telling you as the right answer.
After struggling myself for many years trying to get my own illness diagnosed. I could relate to some of what was being told in this stroy. Trying to get dr's to listen to you and take what you are saying seriously.

Very well written and dispite the subject and enjoyable but emotional read.

What a brilliant and emotional read.
It doesn't seem right saying how much I enjoyed reading this book considering the subject. But it was put together so well i really struggled to put it down and read it in just two sittings.
A mixture of emotions felt throughout reading this book with the odd tear shed.
And a whole lot of questions. How? Why?
How and why does anyone treat a child in such a way, How could anyone do such things to another human being?
And as a parent How can you see you child go through such torment and torture?
Dave certainly went through hell growing up.

Review: Dead Men's Bones

Dead Men's Bones
Dead Men's Bones by James Oswald

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Dead Men's Bones is the fourth novel in James Oswald's phenomenal Inspector Mclean series set in Edinburgh.
But it is the first one I have read. i can safely say I will now be reading book 1,2 and 3.

I didn't feel like I couldn't follow things or follow the plot by not having read the previous books, but I enjoyed this one so much I want to read the others.

The book starts off with Detective Tony Mclean at the scene where the body of a naken man has been found by a local walking his dog.
Then there is a shooting at a farm house. It turns out that A MSP has killed his 2 children, his wife and then himself.
This is where Mclean begins his investigations into what has actually happened, he's told to do what he always does- dig deeper than is really necessary and complicate things- and that is exactly what he does.
It seems though that someone somewhere is trying to cover up, some want the case closed and forgotten about. Yet others want the truth out.
Can Mclean find out exactly what happened before any more bodies turn up. Or is is this just the beginning of what can only be a long journey to the truth.
Brilliantly written and thoroughly enjoyable. I enjoyed every part of this book.

Book Description.

A family lies slaughtered in an isolated house in North East Fife . . .
Morag Weatherly and her two young daughters have been shot by husband Andrew, an influential politician, before he turned the gun on himself.
But what would cause a rich, successful man to snap so suddenly?
For Inspector Tony McLean, this apparently simple but high-profile case leads him into a world of power and privilege. And the deeper he digs, the more he realises he's being manipulated by shadowy factions.

Review: Surrender

Surrender
Surrender by Donna Malane

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I was lucky enough to receive a free copy of this book in return for an honest review.

The Main character in this book is a missing persons expert.
Diane Rowe. And in this story Diane is trying to not only come to terms with but also solve the murder of her sister. And the case takes her on a long dark and dangerous journey, where she will find out about things maybe you are better not knowing about your sister.

She has involvement and help from the police, as she has done work for them in the past, and also because her ex husband Sean is still a copper.
The story also follows Diane trying to find the identity of a body that has turned up, and as the work she does for the police is for missing persons this part of the story sits in nicely and runs along side her trying to solve her sisters murder.

a quite enjoyable read, but I found it a little slow in parts. I would definitely read more from this author in the future.
