Review: Kickback

Kickback Kickback by Damien Boyd
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

DI Nick Dixon Book 3

Kickback

Noel Woodman has been kicked to death by a racing horse at the racing stables in which he worked. A terrible accident, or so everyone belives.
It’s his bother Jon, who has had to take extreme measures for someone to listen to him and his belief that this was no accident.

Its DI Nick Dixon then is heading up the investigation. He certainly likes to get stuck in and is a great character.

This is the 3rd book I have read by this author, the 3rd in the series, I have really enjoyed this book found the story origional and interesting. The book certainly managed to keep my attention.

Review: Head in the Sand

Head in the Sand Head in the Sand by Damien Boyd
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Book 2 in the Di Nick Dixon Crime Series. I'm pretty new to this series, having only read book one and two so, but I consider myself quite lucky as I can dive into the rest of the series so far at my leisure. No hanging around waiting for the next one.

I've enjoyed this book, I'm slowly getting to know characters and making my mind up of what I think of them.
A head is found in the sand at a golf course. It's down to the team to figure out the who, why and how. And it's done very well.
When the case seems to be linked to a case decades before the story really gets going and makes you think.
Very well written and thoroughly enjoyable. Gorey but not to over done. A crime thriller to keep you guessing, and will keep you turning the pages.

Review: The Fourth Friend

The Fourth Friend The Fourth Friend by Joy Ellis
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

It isn't long since I finally got around to reading Their Lost Daughters by Joy Ellis, which was book 2 in this series. As soon as I saw this was available on Netgalley I requested it. I couldn't wait to start this. I have read all of Joy Ellis' books so far, and have not been disappointed by any of them. It's fantastic to add another author to my MUS READ list. This also means that as soon as I saw it and requested it, I hadn't even read what it was about, and find it's a bit of a lucky dip when starting the book as I don't have a clue what it's going to be about.
I did however know the main characters from the 2 previous books, and i'm certainly growing to like them more and more.
Another book full of twists and turns that will keep you entertained the whole way through.
I really do look forward to reading more from this author. I'm not sure if Joy Ellis has a back log of books to produce or if she is just one hell of a writing machine the books seem to be coming thick and fast, so what ever it is you do Joy, Please carry on doing it.

Review: Time to Die

Time to Die Time to Die by Caroline Mitchell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and found the supernatural aspect of the book both freaky and interesting. It really does add to a seriously thrilling story. Grabbed from the word go, I managed to read this bad boy in just over a day. I only had 2 hours sleep, so instead of fighting it and wrestling to get to sleep I just picked up my kindle and got stuck in. Then throughout the day in between doing 'grown-up' stuff, I just kept sitting in the garden reading just one more chapter, before I knew it I was almost at the end, and then it just wasn't possible to put the damn thing down anyway so had to carry on until I'd finished it.
Absolutely fascinating. I couldn't wait to see what was happening. What was to come next.
Totally #Unputdownable

Review: As The Crow Flies

As The Crow Flies As The Crow Flies by Damien Boyd
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A very easy to read but interesting story. At only 180 pages it was very easy to get stuck into and finish.
This is the fist book featuring Detective Inspector Nick Dixon. As its only a short book it seems to get right to the point early on.,
Detective Inspector Nick Dixon  has recently left a career in the Met to move to the Avon & Somerset Police force, He's a character I kind of liked right away.
He receives a call telling him his friend and Former Climbing partner had died.
Dixons friend Jake Fayter has died whilst practicing a new route on High rock. in cheddar Gorge. But  Dixon knows that Jake would not have made a basic error in tying a knot, and he is then drawn into the investigation as to the cause of death.

A really well written book, I not read many around rock climbing, and wasn't sure how I was going to find this one, but i really did enjoy it.
I recieved this book for review via Netgalley. And luckily I took the chance and downloaded the next two at the same time. I'm glad I did and look forward to reading them both.

Review: No Other Darkness

No Other Darkness No Other Darkness by Sarah Hilary
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I'm still at it, still playing catch up with series i've neglected. Its forever ago since I read book one, and with book 5 due out soon, I thought it time I played catch up.

Here we are with book 2, a great start and story that held my attention from the word go. Back with DI Marnie Rome and her sidekick Noah Jake.
This time around they are investigating the discovery of two children found in an underground bunker.
But the Who, the what and the why is what they need to figure out. A difficult case to deal with and it's going to need every bit of super power they posess to get through it.
A brilliant, interesting read the book kept my attention all the way through. I'm looking forward to the next one now.

Review: Thieves On The Fens

Thieves On The Fens Thieves On The Fens by Joy Ellis
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Joy Ellis – Thieves on the fens.
What a book, I love this series; I mean I really love this series. Here we are at book 8, and I have to say personally I think these books should be read in order. I’m not saying you couldn’t read as standalone, but to get the full background story which I feel really does make a difference here, then they really are best read in order.
Nikki Galena and Joseph Easter, a first class crime solving partnership. I find these two characters just amazing, the way they interact, the way they know each other and of course they work so so well together.

We are on the lookout in this book for a killer who seems to be taunting the police. Mainly Nikki and Joseph, Leaving clues as to what he is going to do. The clues that Nikki and Joseph need to figure out.
We also see a little more of Eve in this book. (Nikki’s mother) and I think she’s also a great character. Finding one of her long time friends dead, Eve is determined to figure out if this was just a natural death or something a little more sinister, but the more she searches the more she puts herself in danger.

I can't recommend this series highly enough from the very beginning I have thoroughly enjoyed it

Review: The Girl in the Green Dress

The Girl in the Green Dress The Girl in the Green Dress by Cath Staincliffe
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Allie Kennaway is off to her school prom, an evening most teenager look forward to, a time to get dressed up and go out with friends and have some fun. That is what Allie has planned and as she’s ready for the off, her dad Steve couldn’t be any more proud of her.
The night doesn’t turn out to be much fun for Allie. Allie Kennaway age 18 is never to return home. Brutally murdered, beaten to death in an apparent hate crime because of her transgender identity.
A crime that has destroyed a family a father who had lost his wife to cancer has now lost his daughter, his younger daughter Teegan has lost her sister, a family ripped apart so cruelly. A crime that has appalled the country, and the police have a huge job on their hands to find the killer.

Another very interesting read, I have now read a number of books by Cath Staincliffe and I seem to have enjoyed them all.
This one is a very interesting & a compelling read, told at a steady pace. It’s subject is quite topical at the moment and something we seem to be hearing more and more about. Todays society is a lot more understanding with thing although I still believe a lot of people are still uncomfortable with this subject, and i like how that was highlighted in the book with certain characters and their views.

This really was an fascinating story, and I really don’t think anything I write about it will do the book the justice it deserves, I’m worried about saying to much, then concerned I'm not saying enough, so I'll end with – Give this book a read, and decide for yourself.

Review: My Bloody Valentine

My Bloody Valentine My Bloody Valentine by Alastair Gunn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Back with Antonia Hawkins for book 2. It seems forever ago since I read book 1 and I purchased this book back in August 2015. Bad me, i'm slowly playing catch up with some of the series of books I've started and not yet finished. This is another of those books that for some reason got lost in the dark and dusty archive shelves of my kindle. It must have really needed me to read it as it somehow just happened to pop up to the top of the page, so it was really telling me to read it.
The good thing now with being slightly behind, I get to read book 3 and 4 as soon as I choose to.
Anyhow, the book. What did I think? Well I actually enjoyed it, I like Antonia, she's gutsy but stupid sometimes, she stubborn and awkward, she's a character i'm enjoying getting to know.
Antonia has received some pretty horrific injuries after being stabbed a number of times, and after weeks in hospital is going mad with boredom. Along with the worry of someone else stepping into her shoes at work, her stubborn streak kicks in, and she manages to force herself back to work. She is certainly not ready to be back and probably shouldn't be starting on a new murder investigation. But Antonia doesn't always seem to do what is right. Antonia decides working while recovering is the best thing for her.
With her new set of wheels, her wheel chair that she is less than happy to be using, she throws herself into work as is soon on the hunt for a killer. A killer who seems to like hitting people over the head with an hammer.
It soon becomes apparent that her and her team are looking for a serial killer. The team need to throw everything they have into this case to get it solved.
Another good solid, interesting read. I have only read the first 2 but I would certainly advise that they are read in order.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Book 4

It's great to be back with some familiar characters, getting to know them a little more.
Another book that will keep you reading. Once started this book does manage to keep your attention the whole way through, and leaves you wanting to know 'what next' which means as you finish one chapter you want to carry on with the next.
Book 4 in this great series, The book just got better and better the more I read, It's a great series to follow and I think would keep the interest of most crime fiction fans.

Review: The Missing Girls

The Missing Girls The Missing Girls by Carol E. Wyer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Well if there has to be one advantage of being a little late to the party, it is the fact that I have gotten to read all 3 books in such a short time to each other. Non of this trying to remember any of the main characters.
Book 3 in the Detective Robyn carter Series, is just as good as the first two.
Here we are back with Detective Robyn Carter. A great character, and getting to know has been interesting.
Robyn is still struggling after losing her husband, and wishes he was with her, life is lonely so what do you do? get yourself stuck into a new case.
The body of a missing girl is found in a storage warehouse, but no one knows who the woman is that had the chest put in there. It's not to long before a second body turns up and it soon starts to look like this is the same killer, but still the team have no idea who they are looking for.
This book certainly keeps you going, page after page, you want to read just that little bit more. I love it when a book grabs my attention and this certainly did that.
I love the main character Robyn, she seems like a woman who is passionate about what she does, yet cares about the people around her.
I'm looking forward to book 4 which I now get to read right away, and consider myself very lucky to be able to do so. Looking forward to it because the ending of this book has really left me needing the next one. NOW!

As always I say this is part of a series, and I personally think the books are better read in order, but you could get away with reading it as a stand alone. But personally i'd just buy yourself all 3 books now and lock out the world, by the time you finish them book 4 should be available. How cool is that?

Review: 99 Red Balloons

99 Red Balloons 99 Red Balloons by Elisabeth Carpenter
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was one of those books that once started you really want to know what is coming next, and second guessing what is happening can't be helped. As usual I got it wrong. A very interesting read, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Once or twice i did find myself back tracking and forgetting who was who, but I think that's just my dumb head at the moment.
When 8 year old Grace goes missing her mother Emma has her life thrown into turmoil. Every parents worst nightmare and she has to live it.
We go through the agony of a family in limbo of not knowing what has happened to their precious little girl.
We also meet Maggie Taylor, who show's a keen interest in the disappearance of Grace as many many years ago she went through something similar with her granddaughter going missing. Could Maggie find similarities between the two cases or is it just her age and mind playing tricks on her.
I have to say for me through this book I loved Maggie and the relationship she had with her old pal Jim. It was a lovely part to a very disturbing story.
Very well written and worth reading.

Review: Lost Temptation

Lost Temptation Lost Temptation by M.A. Comley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Well I don't know what happened with this book, I actually thought i'd read it. And goodreads says i'd read it in 2014. Yet it's just turned up at the top of my list on my Kindle and when I started it, I knew I hadn't previously read it. Or I have read that much I really couldn't remember it. WOW
It's a great easy and quick read, a great story line. Chrissy feels she is losing her boyfriend Kyle, she feels Kyle is going off her, she plans to win Kyles affections back. But at what cost.
I can't believe I've only just read this book. Playing catch up is fun though

So if I had read it, I don't remember and if I had why didn't I write a review back then.

Sorry Mel.

Review: Deadly Focus

Deadly Focus Deadly Focus by R.C. Bridgestock
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Well this seems to be another series that once upon a time I decided I was going to read and then bought all the books available. According to mr Amazon i've had this one since May 2014.
I'm glad I finally started it, I really enjoyed it. Another series for me to get my teeth into and the good thing is I don't have to wait for the next one, as i'm so far behind.
So Deadly Focus is the first book in the D I Dylan, and I have to say what a great start. It's very well written and gripping from the first chapter.
It got to me this book with the subject being children that were kidnapped and murdered, but at the same time it kept my attention.
I have enjoyed getting to Di Dylan and look forward to reading more about him. I think any crime thriller fan with thoroughly enjoy this book.

Review: Cold Cuts

Cold Cuts Cold Cuts by Douglas Lindsay
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Investigating a case of how human meat has gotten into the food chain, are Detectives Aliya Pereira and Marc Bain. Kevin Moyes has been missing 2 week when he turns up on someones pork sandwich. Nice!
The book has mystery and gore but no more than any other book i've read, the human meat side of it although it made me go yuck and not want to get a sandwich from anywhere doesn't put you off reading the book.
It felt like something was missing to me, (and I don't mean salad cream with the sandwich) maybe it was just a little to short, maybe a few more chapters could of ironed out the story a little so it felt less rushed.
It was an interesting read, I liked the idea behind how things were found and traced and how we got to the conclusion. I'm going to say it was to short, as I can't say I hated the book, but I cant say I thoroughly enjoyed it. it's a down the middle 3/5 from me.
I have noticed that there is now a book 2, and i'm intrigued as to how that one will be that I probably will purchase it to find out.

Review: Kill Me Twice

Kill Me Twice Kill Me Twice by Anna Smith
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Oh my, I'm managing to catch up slowly with this series, and you know what, i'm thrilled I've had the chance to read these last few books back to back, because each one just leaves me wanting more.
I absolutely love the character Rosie Gilmore. I think the fact that she's a journalist rather than a detective really helps make Rosie stand out. Each book just shows tat for Rosie there is no boundaries, If she needs to get the full story, she had no limits, she will go all out to get it. It doesn't always do her any good, and sometimes she ends up in a bit of a scrape or two.
This really is a first class gritty thriller, and really does  leave you wanting more. This could be read as a stand alone, but I really can't recommend enough how much better the books are, when read in order.
This book really does deserve more than the 5 stars given. Each time I finish one of these books, I just think there is no way Anna Smith can improve with another story, yet each one really does get better and better. This author is by far one of the best around for pulling you into each and every page, keeping your attention the whole way through and throwing in one or two things you just really wasn't expecting. I really can't stress how much this series of books needs reading.

Review: Death Trap

Death Trap Death Trap by Anna Smith
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Rosie Gilmore is certainly one of my all time favourite fictional characters. There is just something about Rosie that, the fact she isn't a police detective makes her character that bit better. She really seems to have no limits to how far she will go for her story, and to get the best story possible she really does push the boundaries.
These books are superbly written, each and every one is unputdownable, written in a style that leaves you wanting more. You need and want to carry on reading. These books grab you from the first page and don't let you go until the very end. You read because you want to get to the end of the book, but as you get near the end, you have to slow down because, by then you don't want the book to finish.
This was certainly a story that kept me hooked right up to the end.

I have just done a Rosie Gilmore book binge and have now only got the latest book, The Hit to read. I'm going to miss Rosie after reading them back to back.

Review: Dead To Me

Dead To Me Dead To Me by Stephen Edger
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I consider myself very lucky at the moment that I seem to be on a roll reading some truly fantastic reads. I think this is a mixture of knowing the sort of books I like to read and authors everywhere upping their game.

This is one of those fantastic reads.  I was looking forward to starting this book, a new series is always exciting. Exciting to see what the book is all about and if we are going to like getting to know new characters and so forth. Well what an exciting read this turned into.

Meet Detective Kate Matthews. Matthews is out to prove herself. She has history that seems to have followed her to her new station. Proving she has still got what it takes to solve a case is high on her priority list.
The thing is, has she still got it and can she find a very sick and twisted killer before it's to late.
I have to say I really did like Kate Matthews, I've enjoyed getting to know her a little through this book, but I feel there is still a lot more to learn about her. I am certainly looking forward to that in future books. I like how we not only learn of her as a detective but her personal life plays a big part in things, I have really enjoyed meeting a new character.
A seriously tense nail biting read, will have you hooked from the word go.
A fantastic twist an ending I really didn't see coming. I thought at one stage I had it sussed but OMG how wrong was I. I love the way the author twisted things, and wow that ending was just first class.
I have been trying to have a Bookouture binge recently catching up with some of the backlog of books I seem to have, one thing I can certainly say is they seem to have some of the best crime writers around at the moment. And Stephen Edger has firmly added himself to that list with this book.
Outstanding read, and a brilliant start to a new series

Review: Dead Souls

Dead Souls Dead Souls by Angela Marsons
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Oh my oh my, where has my head been. I've been a little over excited when I realised Angel Marsons had book 7 in the Kim Stone series due out. And flicking back through my books realised I haven't read book 6... ahhhhhh bad me. But is it really bad me? Maybe it didn't get lost on a carrousel of a million books on my kindle. Maybe, just maybe I have such good will power that I was able to save this book and read it just before the new one comes out, so that I can have a Kim Stone binge.  mmmmmmm You Decide!
Loved being back with Kim Stone, what a character she is.
The problem this time around is Kim ends up having to share a case, a joint investigation with someone who, for some reason really doesn't like her, but it seems the feeling could be mutual.
I felt like I'd really gotten involved during this investigation. I was gripped to the pages, I had to read it at every opportunity but then ended up sad as I got towards the end. I think a lot of the characters really shone in this book, it's great getting to know familiar characters even more and I think Angela managed that no problem here.
The only fear I have now is that Angela keeps raising the bar on her books, and she needs to shoot for the sky to better this one, I look forward to finding out what Kim has in store next.
An exceptional story. Fantastically put together.

Review: Shadows

Shadows Shadows by Paul Finch
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

It seems forever ago since I read the first book to feature Lucy Clayburn - Strangers

It's actually just a year since I read book 1, and here I am privileged to be reading an ARC of book 2.
Strangers is a great read, something to get your teeth stuck into. I'm a huge fan of books that are based in and around Manchester. Lucy has her work cut out this time around, this case is going to really test her. When 'The Creeper turns up in Manchester the streets become a little scary. Alongside that there seems to be a number of 'odd robberies. Luckily Lucy has friends she can rely on in the Robbery squad.
Lucy is one tough cookie, and a character I'm really growing to like and I can't wait to read more about her. I can see this series going on to be a long standing one. (I hope).
I was a little unsure when I started to read this book, but it soon become clear that I was hooked, page after page begins to drag you into the story and doesn't let you go.
With twists I didn't see coming and violence a plenty this isn't for the faint hearted. What it is, is a damn good thriller. And if that's the sort of book you like to read, then you need to start this now. At times, I felt the book was a little over the top, but I think now I have finished it, it all helped with the story.  I have read book 1 as I said, and I always like to read books in order, but to be honest I don't think it would make much of a difference if you hadn't read book 1. It's a personal choice.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Avon Books UK for an advance copy of Shadows.

Review: A Cold Killing

A Cold Killing A Cold Killing by Anna Smith
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

My thoughts.

Firstly I would like to Thank you to the Author, Publishers and Netgalley for a review copy of this book. And apologise on how long it's taken me to get around to reading it.

The Amazing author that is Angela Marsons seems to be able to write about anything, and grab you right into the story from the early pages. Again this book was brought to my attention only because of who the aurthor was, and had it been an author I hadn't known, I may never have read it. I am so glad I did read it.
What an amazing story the journey of two women who have totally different lives but one thing in common. Drink!
Meeting at an AA meeting they certainly don't hit it off. It's only a matter of time before they realise how they could help each other and a friendship begins to form.
This really was a heart warming read, emotional yet interesting. I found myself really rooting for Kit and Fran to do so well.

A book well worth reading. And a welcome change from the normal genre I read.

Review: The Christmas Cake Cafe

The Christmas Cake Cafe The Christmas Cake Cafe by Sue Watson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I was just about to start Snowflakes, Iced Cakes and Second Chances: When searching through my kindle for it I realised I hadn't read this one. How does this keep happening to me.
I'm a huge Sue Watson fan after being introduced to Love, Lies and Lemon Cakes. All of Sue's books have managed to make me smile or LOL, I find these really easy and enjoyable reads and a big change from my usual crime thrillers.
Jen goes off on a working holiday with her half sister and friends, and after being dumped by Dan. Jen is maybe a little to straight for the girls she's away with, they certainly do their best to change that. Jen also seems to manage to get most things wrongs, which in parts is hilarious. This book really does have so many happy, smiley parts to it. Fairy tales and cake and maybe a little more cake. Just what more can girl ask for. OH yeah maybe a little 'lovin'.
This one is another feel good, happy read. I loved the character Jen, although at times her need for perfection did get a little annoying.
The story is brilliantly written and keeps you gripped the whole way through, I read this in a day, after racing round doing all I needed to I decided it was me time and sat down to read. I'm lucky that I now have another Sue Watson book to start and I so can't wait for it.

Review: Broken

Broken Broken by Martina Cole
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Broken is the second book to feature Di Kate Burrows. I first read this book Eleventy billion years ago. Or maybe around 17 years ago when it first come out.
I have decided to do a re read of this series so far, ready for Martina's new Book Damaged which is due out later this month. Having just finished the first book in my reread marathon, I couldn't wait to start this one. It's funny how much of a book you actually forget, and it was great being back with DI Kate Burrows and Patrick Kelly.
This is proving to be a tough case for Kate, Children are going missing, It seems their mothers are seen trying to get rid of them.
The children turn up and of course the Mothers deny everything.
Can Kate and her team figure out what is going on, can they get anywhere with such a complex case, when it turns out things really are not as they seem, the case ramps up a level, and finding the answers become a little tougher.
As well as work mounting up and becoming difficult, Kate is faced with problems with here gangster lover Patrick Kelly. Can this bond they think they have together ride out the storm, before the storm turns nasty.
Another gripping read, and onto the next one, Hard Girls for me next.

Review: Cold Blood

Cold Blood Cold Blood by Robert Bryndza
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book deserves way more than the given 5 stars.
What a brilliant read. Ill health allowed me to sit and read this and really get stuck into it. Never before have I been grateful for bed rest.
This series of books is certainly way up there at the top of my must read series. Robert certainly knows how to entertain his readers, grabbing you in from the word go and you are not released until the very end.
Erika Foster is a character I have really grown to like, yet I still feel with each book we are learning more about her, she's a very feisty character yet sometime I feel she's a little vulnerable, I wanted to get hold of her and one stage and give her a cuddle, then I wanted to get hold of her and give her a slap and explain that she's only human.
I think if an author manages to get you feeling so much for a character then, they have certainly done their job well.
This certainly is a bit of a bad case for Erika and her team, bad enough that a suitcase has turned up with a dismembered body in it, but when a second one turns up well the case gets that bit more difficult. It's a testing time for them all, and each and every member of the team will have their skills tested here.
I really can not praise this book or this author enough, and i'm excited to see what else Robert can bring us. It's going to be tough matching or bettering this read that's for sure, but you know what? If any author can do it, then I really think Robert can.
An outstanding read.
I would recommend this series to anyone who loves a damn good crime thriller. This book has gone into my 2017 Must reads!

Review: Bodily Harm

Bodily Harm Bodily Harm by Charlie Gallagher
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

On a roll at the moment, checking out new authors to me and really enjoying some of my finds. This one is another find, that means I've also added another must read author to my list.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this.
Detective George Elms, a likeable and believable character. And learning about him and his family in this book was great. The ups and the downs, balancing home life and work life. There was times in this book I actually cried with or for George. A real likeable character.

I think in this book you can certainly tell it's written by someone who has been a serving officer. An interesting read full of suspense. Twists and turns but I found the ending a little strange, and had one or two questions that hadn't been answered.
Overall not a bad read.

Review: The Accident

The Accident The Accident by S.D. Monaghan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Wowzers, What a read! I started this not having clue what to expect from it. I was pleasantly surprised. It's great to find new authors, and new authors that can write a good book, well its just a Win Win situation. Bookouture are certainly finding some of the best authors around.

When you think you have it all. When you think life just can't get any better, well that's pretty much how life has gone for David and Tara.
About to move into their dream home, David decides to just go and have a final look at their beautiful built new home. Then his life falls apart. Before he has even got the chance to park up and get out of his car, he spots his wife coming out of their gorgeous custom built forever home. His pregnant beautiful wife - with another man.
This is the moment David and Tara's lives change forever.
I was shocked at how quick this story took off, right from the first chapter. It carried on at a gallop the whole way through.
At the start I did actually think, if all this has happened so early on, how can you write a full book to carry it on. But  was pleasantly surprised at how it went, and knew early on that we were in for a great treat of a story.
This book had more twists that a big bag of twisty things.
I loved the way this book went, a really interesting and gripping read.

Review: The Art of Hiding

The Art of Hiding The Art of Hiding by Amanda Prowse
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was looking forward to reading this, I love getting stuck in with a new author for me. I really wasn't sure what to expect having not read any of her previous works.
The writing is great, it's very well done and put together. I just had one niggle through the book.
Nina. At times I felt for her, I could have opened my arms and given her a great big cuddle, and then as the book went on, by god she grated on me. Once or twice I could have happily given her a slap. But saying that, her life did change dramatically and it was interesting to see how she and her family coped.
Once past my dislike for her I began to really enjoy the book again. I guess for an author to have you feeling so strongly about a character, then they have done their job brilliantly.
Nina, Connor and Declan really do go on a journey of discovery. Learning a whole new life after the tragic loss of Finn, Husband and Father.
I finished the book feeling proud of how everyone had changed. I especially liked Tiggy, she was a real Character.
This book really does make you think how different life could be, how things can change so quickly.
It's safe to say I will read more from this author.

Review: 24 Hours

24 Hours 24 Hours by Claire Seeber
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I would  recommend this for anyone who likes psychological thrillers.
Oh my dayzzz I'm so far behind in my book reading and reviewing, I'm doing my best to correct it. And looking at books wondering what to read next I decided to just go for alphabetical on my kindle. It shows any books that have numbers in the title first, which is how I got to choosing this one.

This is a fast paced book, an enjoyable and interesting read. Keeps you wanting more. It's set as the title says over 24 hours.
Who is trying to kill Laurie? And why?
Over the course of 24 hours Laurie has to try and find her daughter before whoever is trying to killer realises she's still alive. Following  a hotel fire that Laurie was caught up it, it seems everyone thinks she's dead. Only she isn't.
Interesting characters, a very well told story. This is the first book I've read by this author and it certainly looks like I've got plenty more to go at.

Review: Silent is the Forest

Silent is the Forest Silent is the Forest by Gisa Klönne
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

3.5*
When I first started this book, I knew I had read it before, yet once I got into it, I then thought maybe I hadn't. So I think at some stage I had previously started it, then not carried on, Why I don't know.
But trying to get through some of the books I've had for far to long on my kindle, I carried on reading determined to get through that list. Yeah Right.

Thanks to Netgalley and the Publishers for an Arc of this eBook.

This is an interesting read, Silent is the Forest is the first in a series of novels about Detective Judith Krieger.
When a badly decomposed body is discovered in a forest, Judith Krieger, a police detective from Cologne, is assigned to the case.
Struggling with things from her past, this is Judith's last chance to redeem herself.
But can Judith move on, can she show that she is still the detective everyone looked up to.
As I said this was an interesting read, I just felt in parts it was a little slow, but still enjoyable. I would read more from this author.

Review: Stark Warning

Stark Warning Stark Warning by James Raven
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I had Stark warning and The Depraved to read for a while, when I checked my amazon orders it appears that I got Stark Warning back in 2013, wow... it was well due to be read, #BadMe.
I have this real bad habit of buying books and not getting around to reading them. But i'm trying to correct that and slowly slowly getting though my books.

DCI Sam Quinn who has been seconded to the Met’s ‘Celebrity Crime Squad’. a bit of a reckless officer full of flaws, likeable and realistic. Throughout the book I really wanted him to sort himself out. I really took to him.
Jessica Lee is the Queen of day time trashy TV, the female Jeremy Kyle. Jessica starts to receive threats that if she doesn't stop going on TV then the mystery person is going to start killing people.
Is this a hoax, an idle threat.
It's down to Sam Quinn to sort the mess out, but with his own life in such a mess, things could prove to be a little bit to much for him at times.
The clock is ticking, can Sam work the case to the best of his ability?
A great realistic real, full of suspense that really helps you to keep those pages turning. I read this in just over a day, pretty good going for me. I needed and wanted to know the who, where, why?

Review: Baby Doll

Baby Doll Baby Doll by Hollie Overton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really wasn't sure what to expect from this book. It threw me at the beginning when It started with a young girl who had been held captive for 8 years in one room. I kind of thought it might have built up to this towards the end, but it was brilliantly done, and helps captivate you from the word go.

The book starts with her finally escaping, finally getting out of the hell she has been in over an 8 year period.
She realises one day that her captor has made a mistake, and she knows he doesn't do this, is it a trap? Either way she is forced to try, to give it her all, to finally get out of this place.

After being mentally and physically abused every day since you were sixteen years old. Now 8 years later and you are out of that one room. What does life hold in store for you? How much has changed in those 8 years?

Life will never be as it once was, and the story takes you on a journey, a journey of survival. How things have changed, not just with you as a person but with your whole family.
Now it's time to deal with the aftermath of what has happened with you.

This book was a great read, Interesting and thought provoking. It really did make me think, not just about the story but how it would have changed you as a person, changed your family. Them not knowing where you had gone, what had happened. When something like this happens it doesn't just change the one person who went missing, it changes whole lives.
Brilliantly written and put together. I look forward to hopefully reading many more books by Hollie Overton.

Review: Streets of Darkness

Streets of Darkness Streets of Darkness by A.A. Dhand
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I somehow stumbled across an older review for this book by the fantabulous #CrimebookJunkie. I knew then I needed to read this book, and I decided it was time I treated myself to the paperback, because come on, a girl can never have enough books.
I'm so glad I got this, what a superb read it was. I enjoyed every single page of this book. It's easy one of those reads that leads to just one more chapter, then each chapter leaves you wanting one more.
This is easy one of my best reads of 2017. Even better as I finished this one, I was approved for book 2 via Netgalley. So guess what my next read is.

Drugs, violence, racism, Corruption my goodness this book has it all.
Set in Bradford we are introduced to Harry Virdee.  Harry is a police officer who has been suspended, Detective Hardeep "Harry" Virdee.
Disowned by his family, kicked off the job. Married with a child on the way, trying to redeem himself and save his career turns into so much more through this book.
When Shakeel Ahmed is murdered, the police have a suspect in mind, Harry is asked 'off the record' to find him. He is to work the case, strictly off the books.
Harry knows the streets of Bradford better than anyone, and is set off on his crusade to find Lucas Dwight. Dwight a crazy fascist who when imprisoned was as deadly with his mind as with his fists.
Harry has his work cut out for him. Learning who can and can't be trusted is going to be difficult, and the more he figures out, the more things escalate. Can Harry get the baddy and save the city.
Fast paced, this book kept me hooked the whole way through.
I look forward to seeing what the future holds for Harry.

Review: Secrets of the Dead

Secrets of the Dead Secrets of the Dead by Carol E. Wyer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I have recently finished the first book in this series, 'Little Girl Lost' and convincing myself that when I read a book, I must then read any other books I have outstanding on my TBR pile by that author. so far I've stuck to it (kind of) it was right onto this book 2.
So I get to learn a little more or Detective Robyn Carter right after meeting her in the first book.
Robyn is certainly growing on me, and I think she is going to be one hell of an interesting character.
This book kicks off great with what appears to be a death at a health spa. It's only when someone who Robyn Knows asks if its possible for her to look into the death of her late brothers partner, that it seems it may not have been just a heart attack that killed him. The only problem is Robyn would be stepping on toes of fellow officers if she was to investigate.
But that doesn't put her off. It soon becomes apparent that maybe there was more to it. Robyn enlists the help of her cousin to do a little digging around for her.

Robyn is certainly a bit of a workaholic, and doesn't let the grass grow under her feet, if she has a job to do then she does it.

The plots are well thought out with twists and turns through out the book and this really does keep you turning the pages, It didn't take me long to get through this book. I'm enjoying Carols writing, and this one was a thoroughly good read. I will certainly be keeping an eye out for more in this series. I would have no problems recommending this book to any crime thriller fans.

Many thanks to Carol Wyer, Bookouture and NetGalley, for the ARC.

Review: Little Girl Lost

Little Girl Lost Little Girl Lost by Carol E. Wyer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Still playing catch up with my reading pile, so lucky for me I have book one and two that I can happily read back to back.
I've been looking forward to reading this book, and finally got it to the top of my TBR pile.
I believe this is Carol's first book writing as a crime/thriller author. That alone needs applauding. It's a very well written book, interesting storyline and keeps you gripped throughout.

DI Robyn Carter going back to work after the loss of her husband, but she hasn't been idling about at home, she has been helping her cousin with some PI work.

Robyn is faced with a difficult and complex case, and it takes some figuring out to discover the who and whys with this story.
You are kept interested and gripped throughout the story, it is very well put together and flows effortlessly. Everything in the story finally comes together.
The amount of secrets that are revealed through this book is brilliantly done.
I will be starting the next book shortly and look forward to reading more from this author.

Review: I Know A Secret

I Know A Secret I Know A Secret by Tess Gerritsen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I can't believe this is book 12, It feels like forever ago since I last read a Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles book.
It was great getting to meet up with them again, like being back with old friends.
I have followed this series of book right from the beginning and thoroughly enjoyed each and every one of them. This one was no exception.
Detective Rizzoli and medical examiner Maura Isles are faced with a pretty gruesome crime scene. It's going to be a toughie but with these two on the case it shouldn't be to much of a problem.
However the cause of death of the woman found isn't as clear cut as they would like.
It seems there could be links to a crime that was committed many years ago.
The problem is, people have kept secrets for a very long time, and some are not willing to give up their secrets just yet.

A brilliant yet gruesome read, will have you hooked from early on. Any Rizzoli and Isles fan will love this latest addition to the series. I certainly enjoyed it

Review: Sleep Tight

Sleep Tight Sleep Tight by Caroline Mitchell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Well I seem to have fallen a little behind in my reading, and I'm playing catch up with some fantastic books. And here we have another amazing read by the very talented Caroline Mitchell.
I read and enjoyed the first book to feature Ruby Preston - Death note. So I was really looking forward to starting this. I started it as soon as little one had gone to school, and I'd raced round the house with the hoover and duster, just to make it look like I wasn't entirely lazy. This book then managed to take over my day. I sat down with it, and occasionally got up to make my self a cuppa, but I was soon sat down again each time clutching my kindle, enthralled in the pages of the book.
I was there with Ruby, working the case with her.
Ruby is one awesome character, her work/private life has a tough balance. And sometimes the two just can't help but cross over.
Women are going missing and being murdered, It's down to Detective Ruby Preston and her team to investigate.
Things seem a little to straight forward when they think they have the suspect early on in the case. But when another body is found it seems the police need to look elsewhere.
Nathan Crosby is Ruby's on off lover, the father of her child. As much as she tries to resist him there is chemistry between then can not be ignored. Nathan soon becomes prime suspect when body parts are found under his bed.
Does Nathan have anything to do with the murders or is he, like he says being set up.
Ruby is torn between her job and her feelings for super criminal Nathan. And it's going to take a lot for her to manage her job and her feelings.

An exceptional nail biting tense read. I would have no problems what so ever recommending this book and the previous book to anyone who likes a heart pumping, nail biting read.

I look forward to reading more from this author.

I think the information in the book is pretty much what you would find on any website about ...

While I found it an interesting read, I would not pay for this book. I got the book when it was on offer for free.
I think the information in the book is pretty much what you would find on any website about fibromyalgia, or even the dr/hospital leaflets.
I don't think it offered any extra insight into the illness.
It is interesting but the same info can be found while searching the net.
therefore I would say save your money and do a little online research for it.

Review: The Forgotten Family of Liverpool: A gritty postwar family saga novel that will break your heart

The Forgotten Family of Liverpool: A gritty postwar family saga novel that will break your heart The Forgotten Family of Liverpool: A gritty postwar family saga novel that will break your heart by Pam Howes
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Another Bookouture beauty. Before reading this book I need to give you a little bit of advice.
Lock the door, unplug the phone, turn any laptops, mobile phones off. Make yourself a cuppa and maybe grab a bar of chocolate, then find the comfiest seat in the house. Then get going, once you start this book it's difficult to put it down, I felt like I was traveling back in time, and going on another journey with Dora. A journey of life, the ups and downs of family life. What an amazing story this was.
Dora is facing life as a single mother, trying to work and juggle child care, her life is ripped apart again when one of her daughters is taken away from her, Carol has to go and live with her father Joe. Someone has reported Dora and she doesn't know who.
The fight is on, Dora wants her daughter back, and she'll fight tooth and nail to do so.
I loved the suspense through this book, wondering how things were going to turn out, which decisions would change things for ever.
A fantastic story, a family saga that I just loved. A real change for me as I read so much crime fiction, this was a refreshing change. After reading the first book in this series The Lost Daughter of Liverpool  I was really looking forward to this one, and when I received an ARC of the book I couldn't wait to start it.
I really was dragged into this story, the characters are done just perfectly, you love the ones that need loving and hate the ones that need hating. There were times in this book that I could just imagine being there.
I think I'm going on to much now, so I'll just say again 'This book is well worth reading'
Anyone who likes a good family saga will absolutely love this book. I guess you could read it as a stand alone, but personally I would advise that you read the first book before starting this one, but that is just my personal opinion. And I know I'm right.

Happy reading.
Pam Howes - I can't wait for the next one.

Thanks to Bookouture for the ARC of this book.

Review: Curves, Kisses and Chocolate Ice-Cream

Curves, Kisses and Chocolate Ice-Cream Curves, Kisses and Chocolate Ice-Cream by Sue Watson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 super huge chocolaty stars from me.

Wowzers again. I don't think Sue Watson could write a book I don't like. Curves, Kisses, and Chocolate Ice-Cream is another brilliant feel good read. Again Sue's books take me away from my usual reading of all things Crime and it's always a welcome break. Chance to get lost in the lives of others, and that's exactly what I did.
Anyone who enjoys a god Chic Lit book, will thoroughly enjoy this, and it would be a superb read for anyone heading off to the beach, to lie in the sun eating Ice Cream.
Dani Enjoys her ice creams, but she also enjoys anything else that isn't good for her, and has a big sugar addiction.
Dani at 39 wants to lose weight and get slimmer ready for her 40th birthday. But it's clear from early in the book Dani just doesn't' want to commit to stopping her treats, or getting fit. It's just to much like hard work, and when you work with Ice Cream it would just be ludicrous to not eat it.
When Dani does decide to do something about her weight, she heads off to the gym. Dani in the gym was just so funny, I loved this part of the story it had me laughing out loud in places and I could just see Dani doing it all.
Now fairs fair, and you can't knock the girl for trying, and try is certainly what she does, with the help of a personal trainer everything starts to change for Dani.
Join Dani on her journey and get reading this book. If  you like funny chic lit style books you will just love this.
And even better, I think It's compulsory to eat Ice Cream while reading this.
