Review: Written in the Scars

Written in the Scars Written in the Scars by Mel Sherratt
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow. Firstly what a year it has been for Mel Sherratt. Who is also now writing contemporary fiction under the name of Marcie Steele.

I can't believe we are now at book 4 in the Estate Series. A series I have enjoyed reading. And I felt like I was visiting somewhere I actually knew when I dived into this book.
Set on the Mitchell Estate, It is easy to relate to. Most big area's have an estate of some description and the Mitchell Estate is no different from those, which is what helps the feel of the book, it is what helps make the book real.

This book is mainly based around Donna, a resident that we can all relate to as a person. Hard working, caring for a family and her elderly mother. Wanting just that bit of something special.
Also Lewis, another resident who is suffering after returning back to the estate from the Army. Life never seems dull on the Estate.
We also see Josie, the Michelle Estate housing officer, although she's not in this book as much as previous books.
As with other reviews i'm struggling with this one, not to give too much away. But anyone who has read the previous 3 books, will enjoy this addition. It seemed like a really easy read, no complicated plots to follow, but the book grabs you in the way you want to carry on read to see where the story is going.

Review: Lost Girls

Lost Girls Lost Girls by Angela Marsons
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Oh my days............ I didn't know this series could get any better, But this is by far my favorite so far. This book will certainly be in my Top ten books of 2015. I enjoyed it so bloody much. It's amazing how this author is delivering book after book at such a high standard, and each book keeps you wanting more.

Kim is back, and this time working a case that is slightly out of her comfort zone. But determined and head strong Kim sets out to solve yet another case. This time she is heading up the case of two missing girls. the girls have been kidnapped after leaving the local Leisure center. But these are no ordinary kidnappers, these have a game to play. and play it they do. Evil twisted minds, that destroy and wreck families. Families and friendships torn apart and put through hell. This really has to be every parents nightmare. And can Kim cope when the pressure is on.

This was an absolutely brilliant read. I wanted to sit and read at every opportunity. But then as I got towards the 3/4 mark, I had to start slowing down, because I really didn't want this book to end. Gutted I have to wait for another one. This is one of those book's that if you discover it when a few others have been written after it, you would just have to dive right into the next one.
Kim is one of those characters that really grows on you over time. She is a character I really do like.

If you have not yet read the first two books, I really would recommend doing so before reading this, purely for getting to know the background of Kim. But you would get away with reading it as a stand alone.

Angela, I don't know how you do it, but by god please keep doing it.

Review: No Hiding Place: An edge of your seat mystery/thriller.

No Hiding Place: An edge of your seat mystery/thriller. No Hiding Place: An edge of your seat mystery/thriller. by M.A. Comley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5/5

Book 2 in the DI Sally Parker thrillers
I was so made up when I received a review copy of this book, so a huge thank you thank you thank you to Mel. I have over the years come to love Mel's book and her writing style. And i'm always eagre to get stuck in when I get one of her books. So as usual once I got this, my other book was put to one side so I could get stuck in. And as usual, Mel hasn't let her readers down. another brilliantly written story to get your teeth into.

After the body of a woman is found Sally, is investigating what has happened and has a number of possible people it could be. But then it starts to prove very difficult to bring the case to a conclusion, not enough evidence and doubt around who the killer is, leaves this case unsolved for almost 6 months, that is until a second woman is murdered and all things start to change. Sally has to figure out if there are any links and what they could be. Who could be responsible for killing these two women. What sort of person is capable of doing that.

I have to admit, I had figured out early on who the killer was, and occasionally thought I may have gotten it wrong.

As this is the second book in this series, i am also enjoying getting to know the characters a little more. I would say you could read this as a stand alone book, but If you are anything like me, and enjoy getting to know the characters as much as reading the story, then I would read the first book before starting this.

I am sooooo soooo ready for Mel's next book now...

It sounded like an interesting read, and something a little different to take me away from many many crime thrillers I have been reading.
This book took me in from the start and was a thoroughly enjoyable read.

Review: DEAD LIST a gripping detective thriller full of suspense

DEAD LIST a gripping detective thriller full of suspense DEAD LIST a gripping detective thriller full of suspense by Helen H. Durrant
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Book 3 in what has so far been a brilliant series of books. I really have enjoyed these, and read all 3 pretty close together. I started this one as soon as I finished book 2 as I couldn't wait to start it.

Again, brilliantly written and thoroughly enjoyable. A great story line that keeps you wanting to carry on reading.
I've seen a few reviews that say it doesn't matter if you haven't read any of the other books, but for me, I like the background and the history of the characters that you really only get the feel of if you have read the previous books, and read the in order.
Calladine has returned to work after being off sick, and is right back into the thick of things, Missing children and Murders. He and his partner set out to find out what, why and they know the when.
A brilliant read that kept me wanting more, I think so far this has been the best one of the three for me, Each book just seems to get better and better. It did seem like quite a quick read, and I really am looking forward to the next one.

Review: DEAD SILENT a gripping detective thriller full of suspense

DEAD SILENT a gripping detective thriller full of suspense DEAD SILENT a gripping detective thriller full of suspense by Helen H. Durrant
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

After recently finishing the first book in this series, I couldn't wait to start the second book, which I purchased after reading just part of the first book.
Well I thought the first book was good, I enjoyed this one just as much, maybe just a little more.
Getting to know the characters a bit more, I love how you learn so much about the characters as the books go on.
This book certainly kept my interest peaked all the way through it. This book has it all, to keep you wanting to read on. Kidnap, murder.
I enjoyed getting to know D I Calladine a lot more, and this one carries on where the last one left off, in regards to his personal life. I think Calladine and Bayliss make a great working pair.
I am going right into the 3rd book now.
